Miami Marlins outdrawn by Double-A affiliate in Jacksonville

Yeah Jeets!

The Marlins drew 6,150 fans. The Jacksonville team brought in 6,960 for its home opener Wednesday night.

For the three-game series against New York, the Marlins—who lost Giancarlo Stanton, Christian Yelich, Dee Gordon and Marcell Ozuna as part of a rebuilding plan by the team’s new ownership—drew a total of 19,669 fans.

Depressing. The Mets fans in South Florida didn’t want to come out to see their red-hot team?

Marlins Park offer an absolutely horrid fan experience. I wouldn't blame die hard Marlins fans for never going.

I was there Tuesday. It was mostly Mets fans.

Yeah, "lost" isn't the right word there. It implies something less than total intentionality.

What time was the game? Would it have interfered with the early bird special at Denny's?

Jacksonville has a nice park. It would have been better if it had been built along the empty riverfront in that part of town, but still, it's a pleasant ballpark, with some architectural quirks due to it being generally impractical to build anything below grade in that part of the world.

Haven't been to Marlins Park, but from what I can tell from TV, I'd probably be inclined to give Jax the edge.

It will be interesting when Jeter et al., explain what the hell their plan is.

SUck it dry then sell it...or cash their checks when they fold or move.

"Cut payroll to the minimum and take the guaranteed revenue-sharing profits" seems pretty obviously the plan

Sample size of 1, but I didn't find it all that bad when I was there last year.

Is the Miami stadium just horrid compared to other parks, or is it really an unpleasant place even for a baseball fan? I ask because I'd heard, e.g., that the White Sox' and Rays' parks were awful, but I found them very pleasant, and would be at them all the time if I lived nearby.

My lifetime list of favorite places is

- All other baseball stadiums
- All art museums
- All opera houses
- All bookstores with actual books in them

[small gap]

Shea Stadium

[large gap]

-All other places on earth

Maybe Marlins Park would rank with Shea :)

The noise level is excruciating, and constant between innings and batters. Such that one cannot speak to the person next to you unless you are literally shouting. And the concession prices are beyond outrageous. The only other park I have been to in recent years is the Rays, and neither has been a noticeable problem.
