Miami Marlins: We have no plans to move in the fences

But we have eased back on booster seat limitations!

Marlins President David Samson said the team has no plans to move in the fences at Marlins Park following the season.

The park has gained a reputation as being pitcher friendly and ranks as the fifth-most difficult in the NL to hit a home run, with 20 in the first 15 games, or 1.33 per game, entering Tuesday. Of the Marlins 32 home runs, just 13 are at home.

“We want it to be pitcher friendly, but fair to hitters who get all of it,” Samson said. “No cheapies. If you get it, we want it to go.”

The dimensions at Citi Field, home of the Mets, were altered after the first season, shorting the distance from home plate to the outfield wall by up to 11 feet in some areas.

Samson was asked if the Marlins were considering shortening the dimensions, which are 386 to left center, 418 to center and 392 to right center.

“Absolutely not,” he said. “We have no reason to think about doing anything with the fences. The park is playing fair.”

This is getting so ####### annoying with the hitters complaining about fences. Good for the Marlins...

Only 13 of 32 HR a home? How about they've played only 16 of 36 games at home?

I get the sense hitters just won't be happy until no park ranks as the most difficult to hit home runs in the league.

Echoing WJ, good for the Marlins.

But secretly, they are talking to officials about moving the fences to Oklahoma City.

I'd rather see a team in San Antonio than OKC.

They were? I thought they were altered for the first time this past offseason, after the park's third season.

It's possible that the ballpark's reputation will put the Marlins at a disadvantage in signing free agent sluggers. On the other hand, it may put them at an advantage in signing free agent pitchers. It's also possible that the Marlins can mold a team that fits the ballpark well. Speed, defense, and triples/doubles hitters would be a nice complement for the ballpark. The Marlins lead the league in stolen bases and are 7th in triples, so they have the speed. The Marlins' defense isn't that great though. The Marlins are in the middle of the pack in total HRs so far.

This. A fifth of a season in a new park is too short a time frame to make determinations.

Maybe they're trying to save on the expense of running that monstrosity in center field.

Given the way pitching is lusted after, I'd rather have an organization with a park that makes my young pitchers look better than they actually are, and be able to trade them for pieces that I can adequately value.

That, and the fact that pitching is taxing, and thus the fewer pitches my guys have to throw, the less likely they'll get hurt/tire.

If there was one team I figured not to succumb to this kind of garbage, it would be the Marlins. The park is Loria's artistic masterpiece, and ain't nobody messing around with his vision.

The fewer home runs, the fewer times times they have times they have to run the marlins spinning
machine-saves on electricity. Who knew Loria was an environmentalist.

He's not, he's a cheap, arrogant bastard.

The key to the A's tremendous run of success the last five years has been their healthy pitchers.
