I am amazed at how disappointed the Marlins were with Hermida, even when he had .290/.450/.390 numbers.
Hmm, would Gonzalez tell a reporter if the umpires said the opposite about his new boss?
So far as I've seen, Girardi has been amazingly willing to turn the other cheek thus far. He's shown a lot of class to not respond to this campaign. Good for him.
Girardi is a close friend of Michael Kay. Is that enough?
This is all pretty lame "dirt", though. Nothing on the level of Rogers Hornsby peeing in the shower.
there is, of course, the possibility that everything they said about Girardi is true
Even if Loria were right, he'd still be wrong.
words to live by
there's another way to sub-spin this which is that Girardi is sitting in the catbird seat, and he deliberately set it up that way; you're always gonna look good when your enemy is Loria
Even if it is, there is always another side to the story. Are you telling me Beinfest or Loria never acted like a jerk, in a way Girardi could talk about to a sympathetic reporter/columnist? Girardi never got treated in an unfair way, never was misled about anything in a way he could spin to make himself look sympathetic? Come on. If Girardi wanted to return fire -- even if every bit of what the Marlins' brass are putting out there about him is accurate -- he could do so. It says a lot about him that he's refrained.
If they had the least bit of class, they'd leave Beinfest's statement from the press conference to stand on its own, period. It was candid about the reasons (more than the usual "we just decided to go in a different direction", without amounting to an attack on Girardi. It didn't go into details. But, no. They have to have these leaks, because they are a petty, classless operation that has to trash Girardi on his way out the door.
he doesn't HAVE to, because everybody already thinks Loria is an a-hole (or, more accurately, knows he is one); no one has any opinions about Beinfest and, frankly, nobody cares
that's what I mean by the catbird seat
no matter what Girardi did or didn't do, keeping quiet at this point will make him look good
I LOVE YA, RETRO - BUT YOU HAVE TO SEE THE HILARITY IN THAT STATEMENT...
