Michael Pineda of New York Yankees, rehabbing shoulder in Tampa, confident of effective return

Shoulder injuries are tough. We’ll see how he holds up when he starts pitching games for real.

“He’s continued to look good,” said Mark Newman, Senior Vice President of Baseball Operations. “With shoulder surgeries, there are always things that slow you down, but he’s constantly been getting better and healthier. We’re still counting on him.”

Chien-Ming Wang pitched 5.1 scoreless innings in his 1st AAA start last night, so there could be some depth available if he and Pineda are ready before too long. Sabathia, Pettitte & Kuroda have pitched pretty well, but Hughes & Nova haven't locked down the 4th & 5th starter positions, although they have the potential to do so.

Good to know Pineda's alive. I was kind of wondering.

I'll co-sign #2. I had forgotten he even existed.

He was great with Seattle. I hope he can come back and pitch well.

Pineda on how his arm feels: "It's just a little sore."

Hughes & Nova haven't locked down the 4th & 5th starter positions, although they have the potential to do so.

The Yanks set Hughes up to fail in his first couple of starts. He missed almost all of spring training with an injury and then rushed back and got rehab starts against Major League teams. He looked pretty good last time out and I think that last start is more representative of his ability than his first two.
