Not to make this all about the Mets, but if Elias and Zaidi were willing to leave their teams, why didn't the Mets interview them?

prolly because wilpons didnt want to either pay them or let them do their thing

Rumor is Sig Mejdal may join Elias in Baltimore.

I’ve heard Mejdal will indeed come join Elias

Thought this was referring to the Elias Sports Bureau, and became very confused.

Brodie had it in the bag all the time.

There were supposedly a bunch of people who ruled themselves out for the Mets job. So maybe the Mets asked, and were turned down?

The art of headline writing has really gone downhill...

If this is true, the day I've been waiting for for 20 years may have arrived. I can't bring myself to believe it.

I won’t pretend to have a strong, or really any, opinion of Elias but if the Orioles don’t make some fundamental changes to the way the organization is run this isn’t going to matter a damned bit. As an outsider my questions are will Angelos let the GM do his job and what role if any will Brady Anderson have because Brady seems to be behind the scenes doing things that can undermine the command structure.

Curse of success. The mid-2000s Red Sox went through that too.

Elias should have access to a lot of data through the years.

I have no inside knowledge of what kind of money is offered. But I would be shocked if Brodie was any cheaper than the other candidates, and probably more expensive. Being a successful agent can be quite rewarding financially, they must have made him a good enough offer to give that up.

5 out of 12 comments about the friggin' Mets! The last major league GM vacancy, plenty of intrigue with the Angelos image and still no field manager and we have to listen to New Yorkers whine.

Is it naive to think that he would insist upon complete control as a condition for accepting the job?
   15. Rally Posted: November 14, 2018 at 04:50 PM (#5787533)
I doubt it. First time GMs aren’t really in position to set conditions like that. He’s a hot commodity right now because of the Astro’s success, which gives him a leg up on AGMs from other teams. But that’s nothing like coming into a job with the track record of Dombrowski, Epstein, or Pat Gillick.

You and me both! Mike Elias is the new Moses. I still cannot believe it. I am waiting for Brady or the ghost of Syd Thrift to muck this up.

Orioles job has to be a great one. There’s no way to go but up, the team is willing to spend, and expectations are low.

Not sure why you think the team is willing to spend.

Peter Angelos is just a tight man with a buck. Especially if he gets burned in a expensive long term contract (Chris Davis, Cobb, Cashner) that hasn't worked out. After trading Machado, the Orioles then made the 2018 and 19 seasons worse by dumping contracted players Schoop, O'Day(Inj) and Gausmman. They apparently harassed Adam Jones for not agreeing to a trade and freeing them of his 2018 salary. They are huffing about releasing low salaried current Os like Caleb Joseph, Michael Givens, and Tim Beckham over relatively tiny pay raises. Some of the roster decisions may have merit but payroll and costs are always prominent in the discussion.

The new guy may find that higher budgets may disappear in the wind. If Baltimore loses its dispute with the Nationals over TV money, that would be the immediate outcome. Other teams work the international market; scout, sign and develop young players; and make use of analytics along with putting a good team on the field. The Orioles presented these as a choice, i.e. we won't pay any free agent salaries so we can do the stuff other teams already do.
