Mike Francesa Says Ike Davis Is Slumping Because Of “Jungle Fever”

Sciorra one for Francesspool!

Mets first baseman Ike Davis has looked terrible all year. He missed some time in spring training with a mysterious ailment—doctors identified Valley Fever, a lung infection—and, after a torrid stretch at the end of spring, OPSed .550 in April and .439 in May. There’s plenty of talk of sending him to the minors to fix his problems.

What are those problems, anyway? David Schoenefield says Ike can’t hit the outside pitch. Bill Petti says pitchers won’t throw him fastballs.

And Mike Francesa, the WFAN eminence, says it just might be the “jungle fever.”

He was only joking because he didn't realize "Ike Davis" referred to the player we all know as Isaac Benjamin Davis.

Francessa thought "valley fever" was a joke and hung up on the disease.

EDIT: What has been the explanation of Ike's hot streak toward the end of spring training, other than "It's spring training?"

The fun part is that none of us would be immune to such a malaprop given all that air time. Perfectly fair opportunity for a light moment of, "wow, I need a day off" or some such amusement.

not from this guy, though. always backpedaling, as noted re the Al Albuqerque event last fall....

I knew this was all Spike Lee's fault.

Probably is, but that's still one great movie.

At what point do you play Lucas Duda at 1B and Mike Baxter in the outfield? Sometime soon? Never, ever?
