Mike Timlin responds to criticisms about his broadcasting skills

Dave O’Brien and Mike Timlin seem like nice guys but they are a real snooze fest.

I didn't hear much of him and what I heard...blah. The Sox screwed the pooch letting Orsillo go a couple years ago. O'Brien is a .250 hitter in the booth. He doesn't really detract from the viewing experience but he doesn't really enhance it either.

Eckersley is a guy who would be PERFECT for ESPN/Fox something like that. A lot of what he does comes across as shtick and when he does multiple games in a row it gets a bit wearisome but I think in a weekly roll he'd be good. He can be very very funny and he is extremely likable.

People on the internet are jerks.

I was fine with Timlins work. More of an issue with DOB TBH. That said I think NESN can do a bit better. Catchers make the best analysts. I'd give Mike a bit more time and see if the chemistry with DOB improves. Love to see Pedro or Varitek in the booth, maybe even Nomar or Kevin Millar. Curt Schilling would be great-blowhard that he is he is entertaining and knows the game. Maybe a rotation of several guys like the Yankees use.

Nobody who reminds me so much of the late Joseph Sawyer can ever be all bad.

Say what you will about Mike Timlin, but he did eat a cricket in the broadcast booth.

Yeah, but did he ever take a bullet from Humphrey Bogart?

Haven't we all?

During the game he was OK. I wanted more, but he was OK.

In the pre-game analysis he was useless. He was like a locker-room player giving bland non-answers to make a reporter go away. I don't find pre-game to be all that valuable, so his uselessness didn't have much of an impact. But it was bad enough that I couldn't just tune it out - at least not without literally tuning it out by changing the channel.

Agree with this. Did we ever get "the real story" of why that happened?

Well, at least Timlin is not Hawk Harrelson.

The best I've put together based on assorted reports, rumor and innuendo is that in 2012 NESN brought in a guy (Joseph Maar) as a VP who simply didn't like him. He tried to punt Orsillo then but Lucchino who was a big fan of Orsillo wouldn't allow it. Both Orsillos ouster and Lucchino resignation were virtually simultaneous.
