MIL Journal-Sentinel: Braun’s discomfort hasn’t subsided

Milwaukee Brewers leftfielder Ryan Braun was feeling no better Sunday morning after leaving the game the previous evening with somewhat mysterious discomfort in both sides of his ribcage in his lower back.

“It’s pretty bad,” said Braun, who was out of the lineup against Washington and could miss a few more days. “It hurts on both sides. We think it’s spasms.”

“Every time I laugh or sneeze or cough or roll over, it’s pretty painful,” he said. “They said it could be something like if I irritated one of my vertebrae. Everything around it tightens up to compensate.

“It’s just day-to-day. But I don’t feel very good today. There’s no way I could swing a bat.”

If there’s ever a good time to have a 13 inning game like the Brewers did on Sunday, it’s when the bullpen has more rust than a junkyard.  Even after Sunday, the Brewers still have healthy pitchers (like Riske) who haven’t pitched in August yet.

The downside of having a rotation that leads the NL in innings, I suppose.
