MIL Journal-Sentinel: Capellan ruined chance of call-up

The Brewers won’t have any trouble getting prepared to face Chicago Cubs right-hander Carlos Zambrano tonight at Wrigley Field. After recording his only victory of the season April 7 at Miller Park, Zambrano dissed the Brewers, saying you didn’t have to pay for every mistake with their lineup.

Asked if he was looking forward to the rematch, Brewers centerfielder Bill Hall said, “Yeah, I think everybody in here is. I think he’s been struggling a little bit lately so hopefully we can go out and take advantage of that.

“I’m sure we’ll be doing it with a little more attitude this time around and see what happens. We’re going to try to stay within ourselves and have some good at-bats. I think we’re going to try to turn those good at-bats into great ones.”

The Brewers will enter the series second in the NL in BA (.277), third in OBP (.348), and third in slugging (.459).
Meanwhile, the Reds (who Zambrano was comparing Milwaukee to) are last in BA (.230), 13th in OBP (.310), and 12th in slugging (.360).

The headline and the quote above really confused me.

So is Capellan definitely getting traded, or is he going to stay in the Brewers organization? If he’s staying, when do you think the Brewers are finally going to call him up (I thought he should have been on the Brewers to begin with)?

That remains to be seen.

They weren't going to reward Capellan with a promotion a few days after he bailed on Nashville, as Yost mentions in the article.

I think Melvin and Yost should be sent down to Nashville for failing to recognize that you don't make personnel decisions based solely on spring training performance. Capellan was wrong, too, but now that great bullpen depth they were bragging about has turned into Cy Spurling.
