MIL Journal-Sentinel: Catcher [Mike] Rivera clears waivers

[Mike] Rivera, the Brewers’ No. 3 catcher, cleared waivers and was sent to Class AAA Nashville on Tuesday. The Brewers had feared losing Rivera to a waiver claim.

A week earlier, JD Closser cleared waivers and was sent to Nashville, although he has remained in the big-league camp.
...
Third baseman Corey Koskie returned to Minnesota to continue physical therapy in an effort to recover from post-concussion syndrome. Yost said it was too frustrating for Koskie to remain with the team until the end of camp.

“It’s just hard for him right now to cope with not being able to play,” Yost said. “It’s tough because he feels like he’s making progress, then he starts to push it and sets himself back.”

The possibility remains that Koskie has played his last game for the Brewers. He is signed through this season - the Brewers are paying $2 million of the $5.85 million salary originally given by Toronto - with an option for 2008 at $6.5 million, with a $500,000 buyout.

It doesn’t seem to be looking real good for Koskie’s recovery…

I'm happy Rivera made it through, but I'm kind of surprised somebody didn't claim him. Yes, his arm is a flaw, but he can hit and is quite good at blocking balls in the dirt. I still hope that Miller is dealt at some point and that Rivera is the backup in Milwaukee.
