1. The cushions are crowded for EdmundoAbout the Durham gun Der-K, I usually don't trust it and I've found it too fast in the past but mostly wildly inconsistent but I saw a Team USA game there last weekend and it had Miami's Chris Hernandez sitting where he usually does (86-89) and when San Diego's A.J Griffin entered it showed the same velo (89-91) as a scout's gun. Maybe they've fixed that POS.
You gotta mention his K/BB ratios here. 37:5 last year at Lakewood. 20:3 last year at Clearwater. 16:1 this year at Reading. 15:4 this year at Allentown. 56:4 at Lowell in 2004, as a 20-year-old.
Career totals, 323:60 -- including the two years he spent as a starter in the Northern League.
All right, all I'm hoping for is for him to surpass Anthony Shumaker and Jim Crowell in the all-time index of "guys who got a shot with the Phillies".
Still, it's a nice story. The Phillies also have 30 yo Brian Mazone stashed away, a possible Moyer clone who has been routinely "dominating" AA and AAA the last few years. It must be killing Gillick to rely on guys like Coste and Swindle instead of his preferred 5-toolers and hard-throwing righties.
How come Larry Yount has a BB-ref page, but not these guys?
How come Larry Yount has a BB-ref page, but not these guys?
Larry Yount appeared in an official game. I think there should be a list of guys who have officially been on active rosters but never appeared in games. In doing some research I came across a guy in Royals history who had done that - I'm sure there are tons throughout history. That's even more tragic than Moonlight Graham IMO. At least Graham got to play.
EDIT-What he said.
Ouch, that hurts worse than Mazone, I'd think. But I guess the consolation of having a BBRef page almost makes up for it.
Gives a new meaning to "Left Behind" I guess.
And I think the Mazone rainout was 2006, but yeah, it still sucks.
