Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel: Brewers like the sounds coming off Weeks’ bat

Weeks only had two singles Monday night… no extra base hits.  Wimp.

“Rickie has more power than Prince (Fielder),” [Nashville manager Frank] Kremblas said. “People don’t believe me, but he does. And he’s only going to get better.”
...
“Last year was my first full pro season,” [Weeks] said. “I was kind of pressing a lot, trying to do too much at times, trying to live up to being a first-round pick.

I hope Drew turns out to be as promising as weeks, whom he was compared to....as in "Drew is getting more than Rickie Weeks money"

NTNgod:

The Brewers West Coast March of Death begins in an ugly note. That was just unpleasant last night. And Peavy is not going to make the Crew feel any more welcome.

As Weeks continues to shine in Triple A, I cannot help but think Melvin & Co. have to consider putting the kid in the lineup to shake things up. This Clark and Lee and pray for Thee routine just ain't working too well.

Will follow up next week. I'm in Barbados with the grandkids so Internet ranting 'bout the Brewers has been set aside for the time being. :)

You can tell the contenders from the pretenders in farm analysis: the ones that dropped Weeks into the 30s or lower on their prospect lists don't know what they're doing.

His current manager has him pegged. He's going to be a major bat.

Lucky @#*#!!

About Barbados....not the grandkids. I'm not quite there yet but there's a good chance that I'll be one before I'm 50 (I'm 40....oldest daughter is 16).

Enjoy H.W.

Best Regards

John

Is that a thinly-veiled shot at Prospectus? :-) They ranked him 36th this year. Gleeman took some shots for placing Weeks so high in '04, but stuck by him at #16 this year. BA liked him a lot, slotting him #8 this year.

At some point they're going to have to put up or shut up about his defense. There's a tendency among some coaches to blame defensive deficiencies on lack of effort or attention, but I can't believe that's the case with Weeks. He's in AAA; they should know by now whether he'll cut it at 2B in the majors. If not, move him to the OF before he gets hurt -- especially if they really think he's got that much power.
