Minneapolis to bid for baseball All-Star Game

The Minnesota Twins say they are preparing to enter a bid to host the 2014 Major League Baseball All-Star game. Team officials say the All-Star game and the week-long festivities that accompany it attract tens of thousands of fans and journalists.

The announcement of the All-Star Game bid comes days after the conclusion of the Republican National Convention.

Mayor R.T. Rybak says the RNC was a success, and he welcomes the possibility of more visitors and national attention coming to the area. Rybak says the RNC brought a lot of business to downtown Minneapolis.

2009: St. Louis
2010: LA Of Anaheim
2011: Arizona?
2012: Kansas City?
2013: NY Mets?
2014: Twins?

Who else could go after it? I wouldn’t be surprised if Chicago wanted it to celebrate 100 years of Wrigley, but that would requrie another “NL Stadium Two Years In A Row” scenario.

NL-two-years-in-a-row doesn't seem that outlandish given the extra teams in the league.

Of course, it's a completely political exercise so fairness, formulas and turn-taking don't enter into it. I think I'd like to see some structure added to the process of choosing a site. Say, given how interleague play has diminished its importance, maybe we could put some shine on an old favorite and base the site of the All-Star Game on the winner of the World Series. This time it counts a little...

Washington Nationals are a sure thing in the next 5 years. San Diego, Cincinnati and Philly have new stadiums since their last hosting although SD and Philly hosted in the 90s.

In know it will be only 13 years after it last hosted, but what about Fenway in 2012? A good way to honor the oldest existing stadium and, I assume, the only MLB park to ever reach the century mark.

That is actually a great question. Where does all the money generated by the ASG (tickets, merchendise, etc.) go? Where does all the money need to host it (security, etc.) come from? Does the host keep/pay some/all of it? Does it just go/come from to the central fund with the understanding that nobody really loses out since each team will host about once every 30 years (or however many teams there are in the league)?

I've heard Dodger Stadium mentioned in 2012 or 2013. I forget which one.
