Minor League manager undresses during epic home plate tirade

Would a robot ump have vaporized him with its heat ray?

Joe Mikulik, the manager of the Single-A Myrtle Beach Pelicans is arguably the most fiery managers in all of Minor League Baseball.

On Sunday, the bombastic skipper lost his mind, and part of his uniform during an epic tirade with the home plate umpire during his team’s game against the Salem Red Sox.

Mikulik is no stranger to temper tantrums.

In 2006, while managing the Asheville Tourists, he removed the second base bag and hurled it towards the outfield, then poured water all over home plate.

In 2012 while still coaching Asheville, Mikulik removed the third base bag from the diamond and gave it to a fan in attendance and even waved to the fans and took a bow before leaving the field.

I think the phrase is "dresses down" the ump. Not "undresses."

The so-called "terrible twos" occur as the young child struggles with the growing recognition that he or she is not in the center of the world and doesn't control everything. Apparently Mikulik's parents skipped that lesson.

What a bozo. It was a real loss when Max Patkin retired and the job of minor-league baseball clown had to be taken up by theatrically angry time-wasting managers.

Don't ignore the emotional benefit of making your players feel embarrassed that you are their boss.

The best part is the kid in the dugout laughing then quickly stopping as Mikuluk looks in his direction.

No, this is accurate.

Christ, with that headline I thought he was going to be leaving the park dressed in a barrel. This was nothing.

Base throwing worked for Lou Piniella, and Lloyd McClendon Took and base and walked off with it.
