Although he was the top vote getter on last year’s Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA) ballot he fell short of the requisite 75% with only 68% of the vote. In fact, for the first time since 1996 (and the third since 1960), the BBWAA election resulted in no selections to the HOF. A total of 569 ballots were cast, with 427 votes required for election – Craig garnered 388, 39 votes shy.
Our mission is to encourage 100 percent of the membership of the BBWAA to vote for Craig.
How will we accomplish this mission? We are developing “The Book on Biggio,” which will be sent to every BBWAA voting member along with a video further highlighting Craig’s amazing baseball career and other personal accomplishments. Also, during the remainder of the 2013 baseball season, we will be running ‘awareness’ radio and TV ads during Astros games and in Minute Maid Park. Then, until the end of the year, we will deliver the message on a weekly basis during ‘Astroline,’a live radio program hosted by Milo Hamilton, broadcast on 790 AM.
Although baseball fans are not able to vote for HOF inductee hopefuls, their support can still be part of the process. That’s what this awareness campaign is all about – getting our fellow Craig Biggio fans ‘fired up’ for the cause. We have established a Twitter account @biggiohof to gather that support for even more compelling reasoning to the BBWAA that Craig is deserving of this honor. Please, don’t just follow this Twitter account, be sure to tweet your support for Craig’s induction this time around! Names and supporting “tweets” will be included in “The Book on Biggio.”
