MLB.com: Feeding off sellout crowd, Bucs topple Reds

The Pirates finished Saturday in fourth place, 14 1/2 games behind the Brewers, while the third-place Reds ended the day 13 1/2 games back. Still, 37,826 fans bought tickets, cheered when Andrew McCutchen scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning and booed when they thought a runner was safe or a called strike three was a bit inside.

The Pirates are two sellouts away from matching PNC Park’s record of 19, which occurred in 2001, when the park opened. They’re now just 19,282 fans away from matching the total season attendance of 2010; they may pass that on Sunday. With 18 home games left, they have a shot at reaching two million fans for just the fourth time in franchise history.

“You go downtown now on a game day, and things are going on. It’s vibrant. There’s a lot of energy. There’s ads for tickets all over the place. I couldn’t be more proud of our fans and more happy of our fans,” Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said

Well if they keep cannibalizing all the fans, the sellouts won't last for long.

Geez, weren't the Pirates in first place, like, a week ago? Time does go by faster as you get old...

Actually, they were at 53-47, tied for first, on July 25. Then came the 19-inning loss in Atlanta and it's been all downhill (6-19) from there...

or uphill if you are a Brewer fan, they went on a tear.

Or uphill if you are the Cubs. Playing the Pirates appears to be a good thing. Since August 1st (when the Cubs played the Pirates) they have been 13-5
