MLB.com: High ankle sprain ends [Miguel] Cabrera’s season

A high ankle sprain has ended Miguel Cabrera’s 2010 season, but it won’t put his 2011 season in question. That’s the relief for manager Jim Leyland as he makes out lineup cards without his MVP for the final handful of games this year.
...
Cabrera’s .328 batting average ranks third in the AL, while he’s tied for second in the league with 38 home runs.

Yahoo: Mets CF Carlos Beltran will miss rest of season

Carlos Beltran says he will miss the rest of the New York Mets’ season after an MRI showed he has mild inflammation in his surgically repaired right knee… Beltran is batting .255 with seven homers and 27 RBIs in 220 at-bats.

Well, if a guy's gonna injure himself, now's the time to do it. Kudos to Cabrera for an outstanding, Pujols-esque season — though his last few years makes me wonder what to expect in the future. Have we decided that 129 OPS+ was a fluke product of an unhappy Cabrera who didn't want to leave the Marlins?

Cabrera went to rehab in the offseason.

I'd say this year was the product of a *sober* and newly motivated Cabrera.

I'd take a player whose "down year" leads the league in home runs and total bases while playing in a pitchers park. If anything, I would guess that Cabrera was pressing too much and trying to force hits. He had career lows in both BABIP and walks, indicating that he probably wasn't being selective enough.

(BABIP: .310, next lowest was .329 in his rookie year; walks: 56, next lowest was 64 at age of 22)

I was recently told by an irate Mets fan that Carlos Beltran is "the worst thing that ever happened to the Mets". I was unable to alter this point-of-view through appeals to reason, emotion, history, authority, or anything.

A Mets hijack in the intro. Nobody's going to beat that record...

So A-Rod could back into leading the majors in RBI, that great stat.

man, the last two seasons he has executed at season's end with insistance to reach the 30 HR mark and pile up RBI.. he's having a nice, mediocre season for 30 million dollar man.
