mlb.com: Morales’ pinch-hit single breaks tie, clears bases

The last 3-RBI single I could find on BB-REF PI event finder was hit by Magglio Ordonez in a 9/17/08 game DET 17 - TEX 4

ANAHEIM—With two outs and the bases empty in a tie game in the eighth inning, the Angels mounted a three-run rally to defeat the Royals, 6-3, Monday night at Angel Stadium.

After relief pitcher Greg Holland recorded two quick outs to start the inning, he allowed a single, a double and a walk before pinch-hitter Kendrys Morales knocked a bases-clearing single off the right-field wall, giving the Angels the three-run lead.

The win was the third in the last four games for the Angels (53-44). They are now a half-game up on the Athletics in the AL Wild Card standings but remain five games back of the Rangers in the American League West.

It helps to have one of the fastest guys in the league running from first base.

A combination of that and one of the slowest guys in baseball hitting it.

Peter Bourjos is in the conversation for fastest player I've ever seen, in 30+ years of watching baseball. He's especially good at making efficient turns around the bases. He may not be the single fastest guy in a straight line (may not even be fastest on his team), but he's probably the best I've ever seen going home to third, first to home, or hitting an inside the parker.

Between Trout and Bourjos, the Angel outfield is stunningly fast. Trout's faster in a straight line — his base stealing speed is mind-boggling — but Boujos gets better jumps on the ball in the outfield and corners bases better. I'm glad the Angel FO has made Bourjos off-limits in trade talks. It's pretty clear they see Hunter as being gone after this season and Bourjos a starter from 2013 on out, which makes me very happy.

Cespedes just hit a 3-run single.

The most recent rumor is a Bourjos/Conger for Shields/?? deal is being discussed with Tampa.

Isn't that sort of not necessarily great?

Bourjos plays the same position as the Angels' best player. That reduces his value. No doubt that he's a great defender and an okay hitter, but he's the sort of guy who you should be open to getting good value for.

I'm not an Angels' fan, so I get that you like Bourjos, but wouldn't you be better off with like ... Chase Headley or someone like that?

Is this Chase Headley thing a meme that I haven't caught onto yet?
