MLB.com: Nationals’ Jordan Zimmermann named NL Pitcher of the Month

There have been four months so far in the 2012 Major League Baseball season. The Washington Nationals have won Pitcher of the Month in three of them.

Jordan Zimmermann’s month-long dominance throughout July earned the Nationals right-hander his first career National League Pitcher of the Month award on Thursday. He also becomes the third Nats pitcher—joining Stephen Strasburg and Gio Gonzalez—to garner the honor this season.

Zimmermann was nearly flawless in July, going 4-0 with a Major League-best 0.97 ERA, while allowing either one or zero earned runs in each of his six starts. The righty conceded just four earned runs off 27 hits over 37 innings, while striking out 31 and walking just four.

Along with Strasburg’s award in April and Gonzalez’s May honors, the trio of Washington hurlers is the most on one team to notch monthly pitching awards in the same season since 1979 when the Astros had four such pitchers (Ken Forsch, Joe Niekro, Joaquin Andujar and J.R. Richard). [...]

With his four July wins, Zimmermann improved to 8-6 on the season and lowered his overall ERA to 2.28, the third-best mark in the Majors.

Your move, Edwin Jackson.

Resolved: Jordan Zimmermann is actually the true #1 on the Washington Nationals' pitching rotation this season.

Any takers?

Are you suggesting there's a debate?

Pretty good accomplishment for a 4th starter.

Third starter. Jackson is the #4, Detwiler is #5.

Detwiler just threw his best game of the season tonight, incidentally. Maybe HE'S the one who will take the award in August.

Sure I am. Among Nats fans I suspect the majority would agree with the proposition, but outside that group? It's actually amazed me how *little* attention Zimmermann has gotten from the media (even the DC media) relative to his utter dominance this year. He's the guy I want starting any playoff series the Nats might make it to this year.

OK, let me put it this way -- do you think Davey Johnson disagrees?

8-6 record will do that. The Nats just don't score runs when he is pitching. He hasn't pitched a game yet this season in which he pitched so poorly that he gave his team virtually no chance to win. I think his worst outing was the one in May in which he gave up 4 runs in 5 or 6 innings.

Agreed with Esoteric and McCoy's comments.

When the playoffs start we want Jordan as our #1; Gio our #2 and either Jackson or Detwiler as our #3.
Detwiler is really comming on this past month; he may be our go to guy when Strasburg sits come September.
What an embarrassment of riches on a team that 2 years ago had Lannan and Livo and 3 guys named Moe

3 guys named Moe

One of those guys was just Livan with a fake goatee.

Nice day for my fantasy team taking home some real-life hardware... Mike Trout AL Player and Rookie of the Month, Jason Vargas AL Pitcher of the Month, and Zimmermann.
