MLB.com: Towers tabbed to be D-backs’ new GM

The D-backs have agreed on a two-year contract with club options to make Kevin Towers the club’s general manager and have called a 12:30 p.m. MST news conference on Wednesday to announce the move.

Towers will take over for interim GM Jerry Dipoto, who replaced the dismissed Josh Byrnes on July 1. Dipoto, who drew considerable praise throughout the industry and from D-backs team president and CEO Derrick Hall for the way he performed in the job, was the other finalist for the position.

Dodgers executives Logan White and De Jon Watson and Angels scouting director Eddie Bane were in the initial candidate pool and had their interviews last week along with Towers and Dipoto.

Two years? Can you even implement a plan in two years?

i like kevin towers a lot. i think i like jeff moorad, too, so i guess this is a good thing, though the 2 year deal seems a little weak.

i hope it works out over there.

If Logan White goes to the Diamondbacks I think the Dodgers are done for the next fifteen years or so.

Agreed, I would want at least five years.

You don't have to worry. They chose Towers over White, who also did not get the Houston job or the Seattle job he interviewed for.

Kendrick and Hall are taking a page out of Joseph Stalin's book on governance.
Execute your 5 year plan in 2 years.
Brag about it to the clueless masses.
Ask the clueless fans for sacrifices.
Profit!

I think Towers is a pretty good hire for the Diamondbacks. I suspect that one reason he was chosen is his history of adding cheap and effective relievers, which of course raises the question: how much of that was PETCO and Bud Black/Darren Balsley, and how much was Towers' own acumen?

Jeff Moorad is the devil, and Ken Kendrick the moron.

Neither team is going to win under their ownership, though Towers will trade every chip he has to have a shot in 2012.

Oh. I see. Towers has already been named. I misread the headline. How many potential GM jobs has White been in the running for now? And what happened to that one lady?
