Grammys dropping Polka as a category
A big story in my neck of the woods, as Jimmy Sturr (who's won 18 of the 24 Polka Grammies) used to own my radio station, and I've hung out with him occasionally. Nice guy.
I hadn't realized that Palmeiro had passed Reggie on the HR list.
And no, Reggie shouldn't be accused without evidence (although greenie usage does seem to have been near universal in those days based on the stories). But I think it's one thing to accuse someone in a "this ####### shouldn't be voted into the HoF" way (which we often see around here ... and, yes, there's a lot of animosity on display) vs. a case where one player is calling out others without evidence.
That is pointing out that we have as much reason to suspect Jackson of at least greenie usage and maybe more (I have no idea who his houseguests were) as we do for steroid use by many of the current sluggers is fair in my opinion.
But also fair enough -- the guys tied or ahead of Jackson are AROD (admitted usage), Palmeiro (Canseco and a positive test), Sosa (an alleged positive), Griffey (clean as a baby's bottom for sure!), McGwire (his brother and Canseco) and Bonds (BALCO). It's not like he's been passed by Thome (yet) or Thomas.
Cool -- Frank Thomas is tied with Ted Williams and Willie McCovey at 521. That's a nice trio of hitters.
