MLB: Dunn reaches milestone with 300th homer

While Nyjer Morgan is still stuck at 3.

Nationals outfielder Adam Dunn hit career home run No. 300 in a 5-3 victory over the Braves at Nationals Park on Saturday afternoon.

It was Dunn’s 22nd home run of the season, and he also received his first curtain call of the year. The Nationals then had a video montage of all the home runs Dunn hit this year.

Dunn becomes the 123rd member of the 300-home run club and just the 13th player to reach the 300-homer plateau before the age of 30.

...How many more home runs can Dunn hit? Can he reach 500 home runs?

“That’s an incredible number,” Dunn said. “There are a lot of things that have to go right. You have to stay healthy. You have to be very productive for a long time. I’m going to sit here and say I don’t know.”

Hey Wilpons. DON'T trade for him or any other impact bat. We like seeing Nick Evans and Fernando Tatis bat.

Maybe reverse psychology will work with Fred and Jeff. God knows the desires of the fans aren't.

Is Adam Dunn on pace to be the most underappreciated 500-HR hitter of all time?

Something Bill James used to say about many of the most successful managers (Dick Williams and Earl Weaver come to mind) is that they spent more time focusing on what a player can do, and less time focusing on what a player can't do. Adam Dunn can't catch a fly ball, he strikes out a lot, and he's slow as sin...but he gets on base, plays hard, and hits a s**tload of home runs. He could spend the next seven years as a DH in the right ballpark and hit another 200-250 HRs. If teams focus on his strengths, there is no doubt he can be helpful to the right team for the next several years...and give himself a real chance at 500 HRs.

He plays hard? I thought he didn't even like baseball.

It was a shot, too. Didn't get cheated on 300. On a line, onto the pavilion.

When aren't they? He's hit the two longest HR's i've seen this year.

One was off CMW in NYS and the other was off Santana at Citifield.
