As Roto-bud, The Bernal Factor, just told me…“That’s why they put erasers on the end of my ####!”
What was hoped to be a simple bruise to Curtis Granderson’s hand has turned out to be a stint on the disabled list. The Tigers will place their star center fielder and leadoff hitter on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 23, with a non-displaced fracture of the metacarpal at the base of his right middle finger.
The injury occurred in the fourth and final inning of Saturday’s rained-out game against the Phillies. Granderson was leading off the inning when a fastball from left-hander Travis Blackley ran inside and struck him in the hand. Granderson took his place at first base and remained in the game before heavy rain halted the contest two batters later.
“I was hoping [Granderson] was OK,” president/general manager Dave Dombrowski said Sunday morning, “but I also saw that he was shaking his hand.”

1. Frisco Cali Posted: March 23, 2008 at 04:59 PM (#2717981)If that's so, it's a different type of fracture.
I thought the Marlins already proved that Renteria isn't really a leadoff batter. Pudge leadoff sounds a little too Jason-Giambi-as-a-leadoff-man to me.
I think maybe you mean Jeremy Giambi, since he was the Giambi floated as a leadoff man back with the A's, but the argument remains the same. That is, how would Pudge as a leadoff man be like Giambi? Not that he ever took many walks, but Rodriguez has taken it to new heights in recent years. Giambi would at least get on base in order to clog them.
Pudge leadoff is pretty incomparable in recent history I would think.
he's the worest lead off player imaginable. makes a ton of outs AND no speed on the bases. if the Tigers really carry through with this hilarious plan it's going to be a loooooong and dissapointing summer in Mo-Town.
the Tiger's offense probably looked better on paper then in reality to begin with. this makes it even more ugly.
And wouldn't think Giambi as leadoff is a good comparison. Pudge runs well and is aggressive on the basepaths.
Besides you wouldn't want to clog up the bases with all those walks.
