MLB: Harden lands on disabled list

The year’s at the spring,
And day’s at the morn
Harden’s on the DL
All’s right with the world!

For the sixth time in less than four seasons Athletics starting pitcher Rich Harden has landed on the disabled list.

Oakland placed the hard-throwing right-hander on the 15-day DL retroactive to April 3 with a mild subscapularis strain in his right shoulder.

...The A’s have yet to name a replacement for Harden’s scheduled start on Saturday. The leading candidate, though, appears to be left-handed reliever Lenny Dinardo. The 28-year-old was 7-8 with a 4.93 ERA in 20 starts last season for Oakland.

I just assumed he was on the DL already.

This is what I get for drafting Harden, Liriano, Gallardo, and Sheets on my fantasy baseball team.

Were Moises Alou and Mark Prior not available?

He used those picks to grab Chris Snelling and Nick Johnson.

Gallardo is already back traveling with the team, though not off the DL. I think it's pretty silly to lump him in with other notoriously fragile pitchers (Liriano had that tag in the minors).

Also AJ Burnett and Kerry Wood.

Sheets has yet to deliver that injury in 2008. Only 15 IP 0 ER.

When Harden, Chavez, Crosby, and Ellis finally are healthy for a full season together, the A's are gonna be really good!

Don't forget Mike Hampton.

Somebody at work suggested that the A's never announce Harden as their starter. Rather, they should treat him as if he were a surprise guest on Saturday Night Live. Show up to the game, expect DiNardo, only to have the announcer say "Ladies and Gentleman........ Rich Harden!"

I wasn't trying to make a joke. My fantasy league has Harden, Sheets, Liriano, and Gallardo. I took chances on risky pitchers in the late rounds (though my offense is good!) and got ######. I was hoping that Harden/Sheets could stay healthy until Liriano/Gallardo returned.

Also, Sheets is dominating, I'm really looking forward to the game against Johan on Saturday.

Maybe it's the back of the shoulder.

subscapularis

The subscapularis muscle is attached to the undersurface of the scapula, sandwiched between the shoulder blade and the ribs. Its tendon attaches to the humerus on the lesser tubercle. The subscapularis muscle-tendon unit is difficult to visualize because the tendon goes through the body from back to front. This muscle helps you open jars, hug someone, lift things, clap your hands, throw a ball, and complete the forehand and serving actions in tennis.

The subscapularis is by far the strongest of the four rotator cuff muscles.

I wasn't expecting much of Harden, so I'm ok with this. My only disappointment is that he's realy fun to want pitch those few days he's not hurt. I was skeptical of the Haren trade, but the early results have proven me wrong. Eveland and Smith look like they'll fit nicely in the rotation this year and Brett Anderson could be in Sacramento by the fall. I'm still bearish on the position player half of the trade, but even if just Eveland, Smith and Anderson work out, that's a fine, fine trade. At some point, Curt Young needs to be recognized for doing a hell of a job. Or not. As soon as he starts getting some press another team will try to steal him away. I think he's done a better job than Rick Peterson did, and has been much quieter about it.

Carl pavano squats and shits on Rich Harden.

And sprains his sphincter in the process.

I doubt this comes as much of a shock to anyone. I feel bad for the guy; I think he's destined to never be fully healthy again.

I did get a kick out of how the A's, as disingenuous as ever, tried to blame this injury on the airline flight from Japan.

When Quest, Jungle and De La Soul get at the clubs, our ritual unfolds.

In one of my leagues, I went for the all upside (and injury) special:

Beckett
Lincecum
Pedro
Harden
Randy
Chris Carpenter

Not working out so great. Luckily, the league has really stupid rules, so I'm still doing pretty well.
