MLB: Hunter Buehrle bags bear

And sometimes the bear gets you…we hope.

Buehrle, Thome, Jermaine Dye and A.J. Pierzynski took a bear-hunting trip following Saturday’s victory, an excursion set up by Twins broadcaster Dan Gladden on the property of a friend. Buehrle made the only kill of the day, using a bow, but it turned into a memorable moment with Thome right beside him.

...The quartet went hunting at about 6 p.m. CT, giving them about one hour before the sun set. The kill was made from about 20 yards away, and the bear ran about another 30 yards before going down. Buehrle plans to have the head stuffed and have a necklace made out of a bear claw. He added with a smile that Jon Garland expressed interest in getting one, too.

The kill, which seemed to be a proud moment for the whole group, came in for a little ribbing from manager Ozzie Guillen, who said the bear was not even as big as pitching coach Don Cooper. Buehrle and his teammates also have a video shot by Thome as a keepsake of this evening’s events.

I hope it was real hunting they were doing and not on one of those fenced-off hunting areas.

Well, Buehrle's no-hitter and Thome's 500th homer, but it's up there.

Bill Swerski: OK, OK, I got one. Mark Buerhle, armed with a bow, v. Da Bears, but without Ditka, who wins?

I guess we know the answer . . . .

Well, the whole 2007 White Sox season has been a little grisly.

I'm surprised (and disappointed) Jack Keefe wasn't invited.

Pierzynski probably thought they were bringing along Dye so they could hunt him.

Taking a bear with a bow is not so easy. Well done by him.
   23. NTNgod Posted: September 24, 2007 at 04:05 AM (#2539671)
I was hoping the bear was Rex Grossman.

It's the Cubs' fault, if recent trends are to be believed.

The last few seasons, when the Brewers finished ahead of the Cubs (2005, 2006) - the Bears finished ahead of the Packers.

Recently, when the Cubs finish ahead of the Brewers - 2002, 2003, 2004, and likely 2007 - the Packers (3-0 so far) finish ahead of the Bears (1-2 so far), and take the division title.

A Cubs division title could be bad news for Bears fans/Favre haters.

It's a trick question! If Rex Grossman's the quarterback, the Bears always lose!

Pierzynski probably thought they were bringing along Dye so they could hunt him.

Now where does that come from? I know Pierzynski's a jerk, and probably a menace to himself, to others, and to society at large, but I don't know that he's racist. Besides, don't you have to prove he's a Republican first?
