MLB: Mark Reynolds vents after Arizona commits three errors

Jackie Earle Haley rulz!

“It seems like we get down one or two runs and no one [cares] anymore ...,” Reynolds said in front of his locker in an otherwise quiet room. “This is the Major Leagues. You can’t go out there and make three errors a night and expect to win a game. We look like the Bad News Bears out there and it’s frustrating. It’s to the point where stuff’s got to change.”

No one could argue with that statement. The D-backs lead the Majors in errors and the only team with a worse record is the Nationals.

How to get things changed, well, that’s less clear. D-backs manager A.J. Hinch has tried meetings—three in a 10-day span—but they have not provided a boost.

“You can give all the rah-rah speeches you want and have all the team meetings you want and yell at guys, but guys have got to [care],” Reynolds said. “I don’t really see it. I know I care. I’m out there busting my tail every night trying to win. Physical errors are fine, but guys loafing, guys not being where they’re supposed to be or guys giving up on ABs, it’s not acceptable at any level.”

...The team is 19-32 since Hinch took over for Bob Melvin on May 8.

“I don’t want to say guys are packing it in, but it sure seems like it and it [upsets] me,” Reynolds said.

I just came to say that in my fantasy league that counts Hits/Total Bases/BB/Net Stolen Bases/OPS Reynolds has been a savior. Picking him up when Encarnacion went down was a great turn of events.

Well, that Hinch hiring doesn't seem to be working out. He had no major or minor league experience leading a clubhouse, has a worse record than the man he replaced, and there seems to be little reason to believe that he has control over the players, at least if what Reynolds says is true. Good thing that Byrnes picked a friend for the spot.

You can't go out there and score zero runs off Jorge de la Rosa and expect to win a game, either.

What did Reynolds say that would need to be edited in favor of [care]? There has to be a missing preposition here somewhere.

#4, I'm guessing [care] is substituting for a three word phrase, which begins with [gives a].

I dunno Tom, did you see the game? The fielding was painful. A bad throw from LF Parra to 2nd gave Dexter Fowler a little league HR. Chris Young drew an easy bead on a popup, then took his eyes off it and just missed it. Then on a steal attempt at 2nd, the throw went through because no one covered.

Unfortunately, I missed it. I'm out of town this weekend. I watched it on GameDay.

Then on a steal attempt at 2nd, the throw went through because no one covered.

The Rockies did this exact same thing against the Cardinals a couple of weeks ago. This is turning into a good play for them.

Isn't Reynolds the guy who can't catch a simple throw to first?

Reynolds is a third baseman, mostly.

I would swear he was the guy who was playing first and just plain missed a routine throw, the ball bouncing off his elbow. This was against the Angels.

Reynolds been playing first more this year.

Didn't Tony Clark lose a game on a play like that a couple weeks ago?

Against the Mariners. I don't recall the play Lemur boy is thinking of, but for reference, Reynolds is the guy that leads the team with 13 errors after committing 35 last year.

A bad throw from LF Parra to 2nd gave Dexter Fowler a little league HR.

The bad throw from Parra in left went to the RF foul line wall where it bounced deeper into RF. Upton retrieved it but his throw home was too late to get Fowler who can fly once he gets going. The reason the throw went to the foul line was because the 1B wasn't where he should have been to back it up. The 1B was Mark Reynolds.

STFU.

Ah, so the Diamondbacks don't [care][forget]?

Yep, AJ is the problem, not the bumbling players who were bumbling under BoMel.

Old Timey Baseball Analyst will disregard everything Reynolds says, because Reynolds is Satan, as witnessed by his high K count

Old Timey Baseball Analyst will go "ooh, and awe" at Reynolds .271 batting average.

AJ isn't THE problem, but AJ is A problem - a raw manager who was given a multi year contract and has apparently not shown any ability to win over the clubhouse, for whom the the team has played worse than they were playing for Melvin.

before noting that Reynolds would be hitting .371 if he didn't strike out so much, and that Reynolds' strikeouts are the worst thing to happen to the D-Backs
