MLB notebook: Indians’ Lindor (calf) out two months

Cleveland Indians shortstop Francisco Lindor will be sidelined seven to nine weeks after sustaining a right calf strain, the team announced Friday.

The Indians said Lindor recently hurt the calf while preparing for spring training in Orlando, Fla. An evaluation on Wednesday at the Cleveland Clinic confirmed there was a moderate strain.

The timetable makes it likely Lindor, 25, will miss all of spring training and possibly the first two weeks of the regular season. Cleveland opens the regular season against the Minnesota Twins on March 28.

Rumors that the Cleveland GM was seen in the vicinity with an aluminum baseball bat are as of yet unproven.

A moderate calf strain is a 7-9 week injury? Are these guys made out of glass?

...you've definitely been a top flight performer depending on your body, right?

Maybe it's not much, but hoo boy is it better to make sure it's totally gone before it turns into something he can't shake.

Lindor has had a 3 year run here as a middle infielder with 158; 159; and 158 games. For a modern times baseball player, that is very impressive.

It's safer to say it's a 7-to-9 week injury and return in six weeks, than to say it's a 5-to-7 week injury and return in nine weeks.

It may also be a 7-9 week injury in a "why risk it during spring training" way. With no games on the line, be sure to get 100% healthy.
