It seems there are 6 really good teams. The Dodgers and the whole AL field. It makes it tough to pick any AL team, even a dominant Houston club, as a favorite.
Example suing a couple of stats: I determined the "walk - strikeout" advantage for all playoff teams. The Astros are an astounding +620 on the season. Their pitchers struck out 490 (that is 3 per game!!) more batters than their hitters struck out, and they also had a 130 walk advantage. Below is the tally for all teams
HOU 620
CLE 502
BOS 362
LAD 354
NYY 344
ATL 009
COL -06
MIL -46
OAK -68
CHC-101
The Astros first opponent is the one team who can neutralize their biggest strength.
I am rooting for a Brewers vs Indians (anyone but Yankees) WS, but my predictions will go down as

BOS over NYY (who beat OAK)
CLE over HOU, picking an upset
CLE over BOS

LAD over ATL
MIL over CHC (who beat COL, only because of jet lag)
LAD over MIL

LAD over CLE, or whoever of the 5 is the surviving great AL team

There are now start times listed at www.mlb.com/postseason

Thursday: Brewers 5:07, Braves/Dodgers 8:37
Friday: Indians/Astros 2:05, Brewers 4:15, Red Sox 7:32, Braves/Dodgers 9:37

Saturday and Sunday are also there

I'm in for the Indians, but they have a significantly worse record than all of the other AL Teams. My rooting interest will be:

CLE - MIL - ATL - OAK, anyone else.

Guess I'm not seeing where the Dodgers are appreciably better than the Brewers (or even the Cubs).
   7. BDC Posted: October 02, 2018 at 12:57 PM (#5757370)
I guess I could just pick by my rooting interests. None of the teams I somewhat dislike are in this year, and most of the field I have pretty unflappably neutral feelings about. I like the Brewers and Rockies a bit, but the Astros and Cubs more. And an Astros-Cubs World Series would nicely match the last two champions, and they're plausible betting choices, too. So I will root for that, but if it comes to it, I don't know who I'd pick or prefer to win.
   8. Kiko Sakata Posted: October 02, 2018 at 01:12 PM (#5757389)

I'm biased, but I'm with #6. I can certainly see an argument that the Dodgers are better than the Brewers and Cubs. But not dramatically so and I think you can make an argument the other way, too. And ditto for the Brewers and Cubs vis-a-vis the Indians. If you're going to insist on tiers, I think it's probably three tiers: BOS-HOU-NY, LA-MIL-CLE-OAK-CHI, ATL-COL (that would be my rankings within tiers, downgrading the wild card teams because they have to win an extra game/round).
   9. McCoy Posted: October 02, 2018 at 02:04 PM (#5757462)
So what is worst storm scenario for MLB and the networks?

Rockies beat Cubs
Brewers beat Rockies
Braves beat Dodgers
Brewers beat Braves

A's beat NY
A's beat Red Sox
Indians beat Astros

Brewers beat the Indians in 4?
   10. BDC Posted: October 02, 2018 at 02:16 PM (#5757480)
Oh heck, it's only a prediction. I predict the Cubs will beat the Astros in seven extra-inning World Series games that I will not be able to stay awake till the end of :)
   11. Bote Man Posted: October 02, 2018 at 02:19 PM (#5757485)
I'm rooting for the Brewers to go all the way if for no other reason than to reward Christian Yelich for escaping the regime in Miami. He deserves it.
   12. Bote Man Posted: October 02, 2018 at 02:20 PM (#5757487)
So what is worst storm scenario for MLB and the networks?

The same storm that snows out multiple games in Denver moves east and snows out games in Cleveland.

Rooting interest:

1. Brewers (chance at first WS title)
2. Rockies (chance at first WS title - less waiting time)
3. Cleveland (longest suffering)
4. Athletics (Massive underdog having to beat three 100 win teams to get there)
5. Atlanta (Cheering for Anthopolous and over-achieving kids)
6. Dodgers (I like to think Puig celebrating WS will be like Ovechkin celebrating Stanley Cup...epic debauchery)
7. Astros (I genuinely like most of the players on their team, but not a fan of the repeat)
8. Cubs (Lesser of three evils)
9. Red Sox (Slightly lesser of two evils)
10. Yankees (Evilest)

Predictions:

CHC over COL
OAK over NYY

BOS over OAK
HOU over CLE
MIL over CHC
LAD over ATL

HOU over BOS
MIL over LAD

HOU over MIL

I like the Cubs because my father did, and the Astros because they are nearby and I see them a lot (though curiously, not at all this season). I like the Brewers a little because I vacationed several summers in Wisconsin, and the Rockies because I have seen them quite a bit recently, in Chicago and Denver as well as here in Arlington.

I followed the Yankees for a few seasons long ago (Mattingly era), and I liked all the Jeter/Rivera teams. The new bunch is just kind of alien to me, but I have nothing against them. I used not to like the Red Sox very much (see, "liked the Yankees") but that has faded, and even then I liked some Sox players (Nomar, Pedroia, Ortiz). But their new stars are also somewhat unfamiliar to me.
   21. Rusty Priske Posted: October 02, 2018 at 04:00 PM (#5757579)
Oh, I can do Rooting Interest too...

1. Dodgers (one of my two L.A. based strat teams and my favourite team before the Jays came along.)
2. Rockies...A's...Brewers... all about the same
5. Cubs... Red Sox (it is funny how underdogs become insufferable once they win)
7. Yankees (because.... Yankees)
8. Braves (racist team name and chop etc...)
9. Astros (they would have been at #2 before they traded for Osuna)
10. Cleveland (taking racism to a whole other level. Not the Redskins, but next to them, the worst organization in pro-sports for normalizing anti-indigenous attitudes)

Brewers over Cubs, Dodgers over Braves
Dodgers over Brewers

A's over Yankees
Red Sox over A's, Indians over Astros

Rooting interest

1. Houston

4. Milwaukee
5. Cleveland
6. Atlanta
7. Colorado

Even mentioning the remaining team here would imply that there is some sort of "rooting interest" so I'll pass.

Do you think the Astros weren't one of the best teams last year? Do you think the Cubs weren't one of the best teams in 2016?

Woo! Took 13 innings, but I'm 100%!

Me, too, but I'm hoping to be 50% after tonight.

Question: Was this as bad for Cubs fans as what the Mets fans suffered through in 2007-08, when they missed the postseason two years in a row by losing at home on the final day of the regular season?

Answer: Probably not, since after last night's game the Cubs won't be blowing up Wrigley Field.

I gave up predicting playoff winners. Houston and Cleveland are the best two teams, with the Red Sox fairly close behind.

The Indians????

I get the reverse jinx move here, but the Red Sox won 17 more games than the Indians while playing in a much stronger division.
   40. Nasty Nate Posted: October 03, 2018 at 11:11 AM (#5759279)
One on hand, it would be fun to have another Sox-Yankees playoff series. It's been enough time since the last ones.

One the other hand, it would be nice to see the Yankees knocked out on their own turf, two weeks after the Sox clinched the division in the same place.

No reverse jinx, Yankee fan. Lindor is an elite SS, an MVP candidate. Ramirez is an MVP candidate. With EE, Donaldson and Brantley, they have enough offense. Kluber, Bauer, Carrasco and Clevenger are all 1's or 2's. Miller is a dominant reliever. Hand is very good. Those guys can carry them.
   42. Astroenteritis Posted: October 03, 2018 at 11:48 AM (#5759315)
I seem to remember picking the Dodgers over Cleveland in the WS before the season started, so I guess I'll stick with that. Not a reverse jinx thing at all, but I think Cleveland is due.

"I get the reverse jinx move here, but the Red Sox won 17 more games than the Indians while playing in a much stronger division."

The Yankees are also a better team than the Indians. The Indians are very good, and trending in the right direction, but they benefited by playing in an absolutely horrible division.
   44. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: October 04, 2018 at 09:55 AM (#5760066)
STILL 100%!

I've got bleacher seats to game 1 at Fenway. I wish I hadn't lost my Yankees Suck shirt like 7 years ago. Guess I'll just be another Pink Cap fan with a Betts t-shirt and alternate logo cap.
   45. McCoy Posted: October 09, 2018 at 12:52 PM (#5763176)
I'm doing horrible in terms of predicting but at least I got the Astros right and possibly the Red Sox
   46. ERROR---Jolly Old St. Nick Posted: October 09, 2018 at 01:21 PM (#5763204)
If the Red Sox hold on I'll be 4 for 4 entering the LCS, but OTOH I had the Red Sox beating the A's, so it hasn't been a perfect score.

And in the preseason prediction thread I had the Astros over the Gnats. Can't win em all.

I seem to remember picking the Dodgers over Cleveland in the WS before the season started, so I guess I'll stick with that. Not a reverse jinx thing at all, but I think Cleveland is due.

Kind of like the Washington Generals.

Not so keen on my Dodgers win prediction at the moment, however.
