MLB roundup: A’s win 10th straight

The Oakland Athletics rode three home runs and stellar relief pitching to a 10th consecutive victory Monday afternoon, 8-5 over the visiting Los Angeles Angels.

Jurickson Profar rallied the A’s from an early deficit with a two-run homer, Josh Phegley broke a tie with a solo shot, and Matt Chapman gave his bullpen some breathing room with another solo homer, allowing Oakland to win its fourth straight game to open its nine-game homestand.

Albert Pujols hit his ninth home run of the season for the Angels.

Oakland’s Chris Bassitt (3-1) got the win despite giving up five runs and six hits in five-plus innings. He walked two and struck out three. Blake Treinen worked a one-hit ninth for his 11th save.

I have been away from the MLB Network. I know baseball is no longer discussed on ESPN but is the MLBN talking about the A's streak? 10 games is really good.

An interesting note is that this is a 10-game win streak with an asterisk until September, since they've got a game to conclude with the Tigers that got rained out during the current streak.

We're halfway to someone greenlighting Moneyball 2!

Three against the Tigers, three against Cleveland, three against the Mariners, and one against the Angels. I'm not saying 10 straight is a lark, but those are definitely three teams that were ripe for getting swept, and the Angels aren't exactly, you know, good.

One of the defining characteristics of a good team is that they thump on bad teams. That's how you get to .600.

Also, Billy Beane is a vampire who can fly.

Yeah, no question. I'm just saying that my mind isn't being melted by this streak, but the A's are definitely more predator than prey.

If the A's win the suspended game, will it count to the streak? I think it should not... Also, do the statistics from the suspended game count into current season totals - or not until the game is over?

To answer my second question - they count at BB-Ref. Semien had his only triple of the season in the suspended game.

Juan Soto hit his 6th career MLB HR last year 5 days before his MLB debut, thanks to completion of a suspended game. his official debut is on the books as May 20, 2018, while the HR was hit on June 18 - but counted as being hit on May 15.

10 games is really good.

I would've thought somebody would get a 10+-game streak every 2-3 years, but it's much less common than I thought: with 10*/11, the 2019 A's are already at or better than the franchise record for a bunch of teams.
