MLB Rumors: Carlos Correa, Francisco Lindor on Red Sox’s long-term radar?

Alex Cora already brought the Red Sox a World Series title. Could he bring two marquee players to Boston next?

During an appearance Saturday on “MLB on FOX,” The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal suggested Cora’s presence in Boston may give the Red Sox the “inside track” on the Houston Astros’ Carlos Correa and the Cleveland Indians’ Francisco Lindor when both shortstops become free agents after the 2021 season.

“The Sox, in theory, could have the inside track on both players,” Rosenthal says. “Their manager, Alex Cora, is from Puerto Rico, as are both players, and he was their GM in the 2017 World Baseball Classic.”

Mind you, those who remember the Hanley Ramirez/Pablo Sandoval debacle see ways this could backfire severely….

Yeah, too bad the Sox have zero chance of re-signing the nondescript scrub currently playing short for them right now...

Hanley and Panda are humans, just like Lindor and Correa, but beyond that....

#1 ... all part of their nefarious plan. Sign Bogaerts, Lindor, Correa, Seager, Didi, Turner and Simmons. Then what are all the other teams going to do? What will they do????!!

But "they're all Puerto Rican and have met before" does not seem like partciularly keen reporting.

Reports are saying the Sox are close on a 7/132 deal with Bogaerts.

Technically, 6/$120 extension, tacked on to his 1/$12 in 2019, if I understand it correctly.

I approve. Whatever I said about opening day ovations, move Bogaerts up a few notches for this.

Can he pitch?

I’m confident he can pitch as well as anyone else did this weekend.

J.A. Happ would fit quite well in the Sox rotation after today’s performance.

Can we trade the Cubs' bullpen for the Sox's rotation?

Correa's idol was Jeter, so I think the Yankees may have the inside track there.

Jeter was also Bogaerts' idol, and look how that turned out for the Yankees.

Or the Marlins.

Indeed, Happ would have the team’s lowest starting pitcher ERA by more than a full run if he were playing for Boston.

Jeter was also Tulowitzki's idol - and now they got him!
