MLB suspends Nolan Arenado, Luis Perdomo as part of brawl punishments

NEW YORK—Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado has been suspended five games for charging the mound after Luis Perdomo threw a pitch behind his back, inciting a benches-clearing brawl during Wednesday’s game against the San Diego Padres.

Major League Baseball announced Friday that Perdomo was also suspended five games for intentionally throwing at the All-Star third baseman.

Gerardo Parra gets four games, Buddy Bauman gets a game. A.J. Ellis, Freddy Galvis, and German Marquez get fines.

It sucks to lose Arenado, but at least that's partially balanced out by losing Parra.

Is the team just down roster spots while they're out? I should probably know that by now.

The Rockies bench has been horrible. Valaika (IF/OF), McMahon (1B/3B) and Tauschman (OF) are a combined 3 for 59. Add in backup catcher Wolters (3 for 14), the total is 6 for 73.

Though it would be good to get McMahon some AB's. They keep playing Valaika at 1st since he's the only righty on the bench.

I think the bench started out 0 for 31, so they have been "raking" of late.
:)

it's an odd team

It's a real failure of roster construction, when all three of your starting outfielders hit lefty, to have your spare outfielder (plus three of your four bench players) hit lefty as well.

Tom Murphy is hitting .538/.581/.962 at Albuquerque. I know he had an embarrassing faceplant in Denver last year, and he's no kid, but he's gotta be better than Tony Wolters.

Hey,the Padres finally figured out a way to get Arenado out!
