1. Petuniaviles Posted: June 20, 2009 at 07:36 AM (#3225810)Leyland's already lasted longer in Detroit than I thought he would. The Tigers are an old team, especially on offense, and are facing a rebuild soon. I don't think Leyland's the guy you want around during that rebuild.
While it seems like he should be that kind of manager, his record really doesn't bear that out. He lasted 11 seasons in Pittsburgh, building slowly toward the good three-year-run in the middle. He spent only two years in Florida (one great, one nightmare) and one uninterested season in Colorado. But he was gone in both of those latter places long before any hate could set it.
Jim Leyland is more like Marc Crawford, he won a championship a long time ago and keeps riding that into getting more jobs.
