MLB: Twins land reliever Rauch from D-backs

The Rauch Hand...on tour, again!

The Twins have acquired right-handed reliever Jon Rauch from the D-backs for a player to the named later.

Rauch, 30, is 2-2 with a 4.14 ERA and two saves for the D-backs. He allowed three runs in one inning on Tuesday in his last outing for Arizona but was scored upon in only one of his previous 11 outings.

At 6-foot-11, Rauch is the tallest player in Major League history. His 305 appearances since the beginning of the 2006 season are the most in the Major Leagues.

Over parts of seven seasons in the Majors, Rauch is 26-25 with 26 saves and a 3.87 ERA in 339 games (11 starts) for the White Sox (2002, ‘04), Expos (2004), Nationals (2005-08) and D-backs (2008-09).

To make room for Rauch on the 25-man roster, the Twins outrighted pitcher Philip Humber to Triple-A Rochester. The D-backs will make a corresponding roster move later Friday to fill the spot opened by Rauch’s departure.

There are reports that the Twins have landed Ron Mahay from the Royals also. That would be an exceedingly rare event - a Twins/Royals trade.

Hmmm.... unless I'm misreading Cot's, Rauch is still under contract for next season too. Good pickup, I guess.

Rauch is still under contract for next season too.

The D-Backs had already picked up the team option for 2010, so he'll presumably be a Twin next year too.
