It's time to tear down the statues of Earl Weaver, Billy Martin and Sparky Anderson.

And Bobby Cox, of course.

One report I read said that Hernandez was rated the worst umpire by 22% of the players polled. There's what about 60-70 umpires? You have to be really bad to be at 22%. What's the next worst 3-4%? That has to be statistically significant. The fact that Hernandez filed suit is probably best indication he knew the ax was coming.

Just turn these jobs over to the robots. 95% of plays don't even need an ump. I'd just move home plate out to behind the pitcher and let him call everything with replay settling all close calls

It is too early in the morning.

I read this as a suggestion to dig up home plate and move it to the flat ground behind the pitcher's mound, and have the pitcher decide what is a ball and what is a strike.

Which was a bit confusing.

Even harder to call hit by pitch, catchers' or batter's interference, out/safe calls at the plate, fair/foul balls close in, pop-up plays behind home, check swings, foul tips, see the front of the pitcher's delivery for any possible balks, etc. from the center of the diamond. Doesn't make sense.

No how much is automated, we'll still have conspiracy theories about how it's being set up and applied. The Lost in Space robot would probably have a wide zone, and enjoy ringing batters up, for instance.

True. Though instead of a warning a robot shrieking "Danger Joe Maddon! Danger!" would be kinda cool.

I think the umpires should resign en masses in protest.

I don't normally say, or think, this because of his history of crushing the Angels, but I agree with Kinsler.

I don't know what Kinsler said about Angel Hernandez, but I'm sure whatever it was it didn't go far enough.

Boohoo. You'll be replaced with robots in 10 years anyways.
