MLB.com: Andruw to have knee surgery

After an unsuccessful pregame workout Saturday, Dodgers outfielder Andruw Jones decided to undergo surgery to repair torn cartilage in his right knee and will be placed on the 15-day disabled list.

Dr. Neal ElAttrache will operate on Jones on Tuesday. Recovery time is estimated at four to six weeks. He will be replaced on the roster by Terry Tiffee, who is hitting .422 at Triple-A Las Vegas, leading the Pacific Coast League.

To make room for Tiffee on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers moved Nomar Garciaparra to the 60-day disabled list, an indicator that his calf injury is not healing and still has not be definitively diagnosed.

The chances of either Andruw or Nomar ever being decent players again, or even playing regularly again, seem very slim at this point. Damn shame how much Nomar tailed off over the past few years; there for awhile he was the best "pure" RH hitter going.

This should finally give the Dodgers the excuse to go with the kids.

The 25 man already includes Loney, Kemp, DeWitt, Ethier, Hu, Young, Kuo and Kershaw starts tomorrow. of course you would know this if when you opened your eyes, they weren't blocked by a colon.

Maybe you should just stick to Boston sports.

Well, pitchers don't factor into his statement at all. Nor does the 25 man roster composition, as that doesn't mean the kids on the roster are getting PT. I haven't followed the Dodgers PT situation much, except for being pleased that Ethier is getting a lot, but I think you could have made a cogent rebuttal that the young OFers are already getting PT with little effort.

Thats 5 of the starting 8 ..

To be fair, it's not like the Dodgers have a veteran catcher that has a chance of being as good as Martin. And one of the 3b/1b spots is only open because Nomar has been hurt since ST.

I'm not disagreeing with your statement, but if you had just said it this way in the beginning, it would have been a lot more reasonable.

That Andy has not been called up in preference to Terry Tiffee (!) seems to me to be absurd.

LaRoche has been playing in Vegas again, .242/.455/.439.

Dallas McPherson would be my choice for a do-over. He's hitting .298/.393/.660 in AAA Albuqurque for the Marlins right now.
