MLB.com: Cardinals get last blow in slugfest

No-hit through six, down 5-0 through six, win 8-7 in 10.

Chris Duncan’s two-out single in the top of the 10th inning gave St. Louis a wild 8-7 win over the Giants at AT&T Park on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals rallied from a 5-0 deficit, then let a 7-5 lead get away in the bottom of the ninth before finally finishing things off.

Through six innings, the Cardinals not only trailed by five, but they had been held hitless by Matt Cain. But Albert Pujols’ double ended Cain’s chance at history, and Adam Kennedy and Rico Washington hit RBI singles to get the Cardinals on the board. Duncan hit a solo homer and Rick Ankiel a two-run shot in the eighth, and Ryan Ludwick hit a go-ahead jack in the ninth.

Great fangraph, too.

So far Pujols is at .390/.528/.707. I guess his elbow feels alright. And Ankiel is at .273/.333/.614.

Cain really needs some support (runs and bullpen) before he hangs himself from his belt. He even helped himself with a HR today, to no avail.

Cain needs to hit 3 HRs next start. At least.

Is Cain the new lead singer of INSX?

this might be the season high in RS for the Giants.

this offensive explosion puts the Giants on pace to score... 459 runs!

Merkin Valdez pitched in relief? What happened to that guy? I remember he was a top prospect a few years ago, then I didn't hear anything about him until today. Is he still a viable SP?

INXS?

They had a contest on TV to replace Michael Hutchence (who hung himself, perhaps accidentally). Rock Star: INXS was pretty watchable, IMO. However, I thought they picked wrong guy. I prefered Marty Casey to J.D. Fortune, but Fortune was chosen.

Giants...slugfest?

Does not compute.

I like how 3 Giants relievers managed to have a combined -1.04 WPA in a single game.

A series of annual injuries culminating in TJ surgery. His days as a starter are almost certainly over. Even disregarding the injuries (and probably because of them), he just doesn't have the depth of repertoire to start.

For such an inexperienced starter (73 starts), Matt Cain seems to have had several starts where he has a no hitter through 4-5 innings or more.

Cain could go on to win 300... if he wasn't losing 10+ wins a season playing for a team that gives him crappy support from all sides (offensive, defensive, bullpen).
