MLB.com: D-backs net Eckstein from Jays for arm

The D-backs acquired infielder David Eckstein from the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday in exchange for Minor League pitcher Chad Beck.
...
Eckstein has played five games at second base this season. He batted .277 (72-for-260) in 76 games this season for the Blue Jays with 27 runs scored, 18 doubles, a home run and 22 RBIs.
...
Beck, 23, started the season in South Bend, going 2-0 with a 2.04 ERA (four earned runs in 17 2/3 innings) over seven games, holding opponents to a .186 average (13-for-70) with three walks and 19 strikeouts. Promoted to Visalia on May 2, appearing in his first 10 games as a reliever, going 1-0 with a save and a 1.37 ERA (four earned runs in 16 1/3 innings). As a starter for the Oaks, he went 4-5 with a 4.46 ERA (39 earned runs in 78 2/3 innings) with 14 walks and 65 strikeouts over 13 games.

D-Back fans are in for a treat. Daron Sutton loves David Eckstein more than life itself. He practically weeps with joy whenever he talks about him. This next month should fly by.

To counter, Ned Colletti has signed Wayne Chrebet.

Oh, yeah... I forgot about that.

Since Weeks trained/trains with Eckstein in the off-season, that fact always gave him an opportunity to bring up Eckstein often if desired, too.

And so ends the life of the three-headed scrapmonster Eckutarett.

So, is this guy a real prospect, or just a generic arm? I'm assuming the latter, but I'm hoping that I'll be surprised.

What's wrong with Chad Beck? The numbers seem nice enough...

I don't know if there's anything wrong with Chad Beck. I just can't see the Jays getting much of value for Eckstein, so I'm guessing (and it's purely a guess) that the return isn't worth much.

With the very significant caveat that I know nothing about his stuff, Beck doesn't seem like anything more than organ-i-zational filler. He was a 14th round pick in 06, so I'm assuming his stuff isn't special, out of a solid UL-Lafayette program and hes now a 23yo whose only pro success came when he repeated low-A for a month at age 23.
Hes got a solid K/BB and he pitches better in the pen, so maybe he will have a future in relief but it seems more like he was just a body that was thrown in to provide something on the other end of a veteran-dump trade

Well, that's that. I assume Josh Byrnes and company are now making arrangements with the Phoenix city council for the parade.

It would be pretty awesome if he won another World Series.

That was a nice pick up by Arizona. The Angels haggled too long and lost out. It is an easier choice to send a player to the other league.

Further confirmation that I made the right decision in May to perma-mute the broadcast.

Is Eckstein likely to be much of a 2B? Regardless of his performance, I'll be stunned if he isn't another Byrnes/Clark-type that the organization hangs onto way, way past the sell-by date.

How Burke has fallen.....and so too Upton, apparently, if they wouldn't try Reynolds at 2B to get both Upton and Dunn in the lineup simultaneously.

The Blue Jays were wise to trade Eck for anything. A SS worse than Johnny Mac, older, overrated, and welded to the bench? To have kept him would have been negligent, even before you account for the seemingly hordes of other scrappy INF types the Blue Jays have around like Tim Horton's franchises in the Maritimes.

13: the decision to leave MR at 3b has nothing to do with Upton, and has everything to do with the fact that the Dbacks don't think Tracy can play 3B any longer. His knee has limited his mobility so much that he's actually liability defensively at 1b now. Throw in Tracy's suckitude at the plate over the last 6 weeks or so, and methinks Tracy will be losing at bats, not Upton. Especially since Dunn has no business playing in RF. A garbage can on wheels will get to more balls out there than Dunn...
