MLB.com: Byrnes’ gimpy leg lands him on DL

Eric Byrnes tried to play through the leg issues that have plagued him since just before Spring Training, but in the end the D-backs had to tell him it was time to take a break. The team placed the outfielder on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday and recalled outfielder Alex Romero from Triple-A Tucson.
...
Byrnes originally hurt his hamstring while running sprints with teammate Chris Young just before the start of Spring Training.

“We were having some fun—we were pushing each other getting ready for Spring Training,” Byrnes said when asked if the pair were racing. “It was just a little tweak that stayed there and stayed there, and I think what happened is I overcompensated on the other side.”

That left Byrnes with pain in both hamstrings, and he continued to insist that he could play. Each day, he would arrive at the ballpark six hours before game time to receive treatment in the training room.

OK, you can have Carlos Quentin back.

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced today they have placed outfielder Eric Byrnes on the 15-day disabled list with a right hamstring strain, according to D-backs’ Executive Vice President and General Manager Josh Byrnes. In a corresponding move, outfielder Alex Romero was recalled from Tucson (AAA).

Carlos Quentin will remain in Chicago.

That's absolutely hilarious. I picked him up 2 days ago because my fantasy team is absolutely dying for RBIs & no one else is out there ... just as I picked up the subsequently DLed Jayson Werth less than a week earlier. Similarly, about the same time I picked up Matt Stairs, who appears to have dropped dead shortly afterward, though unaccountably he seems to be playing pretty much everyday.

Looks like Emil Brown & Jose Guillen have been released in our league today. Woo-hoo. Whichever one I pick up will be sidelined with cholera, so it doesn't really matter.

Didn't see that coming.

Gef, did anyone pick up Ryan Spilborghs? With both Holliday and Hawpe on the DL, he's going to be playing every day and batting cleanup for the Rockies for at least the next two weeks.

Whichever one I pick up will be sidelined with cholera,
but he may find love in the time of cholera, so it could turn out ok for him. But probably no fantasy points for you:(

Infinite thanks, Boots -- no one had him, so I was able to add him immediately. (I'd already entered claims on, in order, Guillen & Brown, but those wouldn't have gone into effect until Friday & Saturday, resspectively; Spilboroughs was an outright free agent.) As I said, I'm dying for power & production ... I've had 1 week already (may've actually been 2) without a single HR, which I'm not sure has ever happened to me even once in my previous 13 or so seasons.

Apparently, I sort of overlooked something when I was putting the roster together, & our league is far more competitive this year than last year, when I was able to pick up the likes of Carlos Pena on waivers about midway through. (I won last year despite being in next-to-last all season till at least the All Star Break. That's not the sort of thing one wants to count on, of course.)

(I also have a horrible habit of getting good nights from whatever OF[s] I've benched, like Casey Blake & JD Drew, who've had grand slams while inactive.)

Watching Byrnes this year has been very difficult. When he's on, the goofy act is almost endurable. When hitting like he has been since...well, a long time ago, it's almost as bad as watching "The Eric Byrnes Show".

Okay, nothing is anything close to that bad.

You'll be wanting to apologize to the gerund "hitting," I believe.

To borrow a line from Mike & Mike in the Morning, Eric Byrnes has been awful, awful, awful, awful, just awful.
