MLB.com: Estes fractures thumb in fall down stairs

The Padres starting rotation took another hit on Saturday, when the team placed veteran left-hander Shawn Estes on the 15-day disabled list after he fractured the tip of his left thumb. Estes suffered the fracture Friday after falling down the stairs that lead from the visiting clubhouse to the dugout at AT&T Park during the Padres’ 7-3 victory in 13 innings over the Giants.

“I just fell… I stepped wrong,” Estes said. “I put my hand down to catch myself and my body weight came down on my thumb. I don’t know how it happened.”
...
Estes, who was 1-1 with a 3.33 ERA in five games (four starts), missed the entire 2007 season after having Tommy John elbow reconstruction surgery in 2006.
...
“It’s borderline depressing,” Estes said… “I’m going to stay away from the Golden Gate Bridge for the next couple days.”

Holy shite, for the 1st time since I can remember I know I have lost touch with a ML season, I had no clue Estes was still pitching.

I just realized today that Kent Mercker was still at it. I thought he was long gone.

The Padres starting rotation took another hit on Saturday

When not being able use Shawn Estes is seen as a bad thing, you're club has serious issues.

The biggest surprise to me is Hideo Nomo has pitched this season, for the first time since 2005.

For the Royals.

With a line of 4.3 IP, 9 ER, 10 H, 3 HR, 4 BB, 3 K. That's good for a 18.69 ERA and a WHIP of 3.23.

Somehow him falling down at ATT is connected to the play when he didn't slide and bounced off the bag at 2nd base against the Mets in the playoffs.
That play contributed to the Giants losing despite JT Snow's incredible home run off Armando Benitez.

Despite Estes' account, police are questioning everybody that's ever owned him on their fantasy team.

How many of these "I hurt myself in a somewhat unusual way"-type injuries actually stem from bar brawls? 50%? 75%? More?

TOTALLY! Only, I saw he was still pitching and was shocked about 2 days before the fall down the stairs.
