Actually I'm pretty sure that one came after all the "good" signings you mentioned except the Z extension. I'm still not thrilled with the Soriano contract.
But Marquis? All he's done so far is give us 300 innings of league-average pitching. I'll grant you, I don't know how he does it and it could disappear at any moment ... and I ridiculed that signing plenty. But $7 M a year for 180-200 innings of league-average pitching -- I'll take it.
You could count the Choi/Lee trade with the nearly immediate (and quite cheap) extension of Lee as an FA-type deal and that was an awesome one (and I was all in favor of it).
