MLB.com: Giants reward Lincecum’s gem with win

Tim Lincecum ended his big season with an electrifying seven-inning effort and the Giants rallied for a pair of seventh-inning runs to award him the decision in a 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Lincecum struck out 13, matching a career high and hiking his Major League-leading total to 265. He recorded the first nine outs on strikeouts, becoming the first pitcher to accomplish that since the New York Mets’ Sid Fernandez on July 30, 1986, against the Chicago Cubs.

Lincecum (18-5) lapsed only in the third inning, when Juan Pierre singled, Matt Kemp walked and Andre Ethier hit an RBI double off the base of the right-center-field wall.

He was pitching for the Cy Young today and pretty much locked it up. Well done.

he locked it up in my head, but the voters' ... ugh! hopefully there'll be some 'oh, webb already has one, lets give it to someone else' sentiment. and hopefully 'someone else' isn't brad lidge or something. not that brad lidge had a bad season, quite the contrary. and i'm guessing there's gonna be a few c.c. votes in there.

methinks a lot of writers mailed in their ballots before today's game.
methinks many of them had Lincecum as their NL CY choice anyhow.

The Cy Young order will be:
1. Lincecum
2. Webb
3. Santana
4. Lidge
5. Sabbathia

Nobody else will receive any votes. (There are still only three votes per ballot, right?)

If I am correct, I will come back to gloat. Otherwise, you'll have all forgotten about this thread by then anyway.

Come on, don't underestimate the general stupidity of the voters. They'll come up with someone random and justify them as #3 or so.

I'd bet Money Webb will win. It's the wins baby.

Santana should have won with the way he finished the season. But he should at least to be second
   8. Baldrick Posted: September 29, 2008 at 01:48 AM (#2959481)
I agree with #3. And I think that most of the ones who were waiting might have voted for Webb if Lincecum had bombed. But ending the year with this makes it a no-brainer for anyone with half a clue. Doesn't mean Webb will get zero first place votes of course, but it won't be particularly close.

I agree with #4 on the order, too. I think Webb picks up 6 or 7 first place votes and Sabathia gets one.

CC deserves more MVP votes than CY votes.

I am ridiculously biased but if the choice is Ryan Howard's 11 homer September or CC literally carrying the Brewers into the playoffs my nod goes to the bigger fella.

Albert is the NL MVP.

But if the writers are going to be stupid a vote for CC is a tad LESS stupid.....

Voters aren't these brain-dead win counters everyone says they are. they CAN count to 18.

Ryan Dempster might eke out a 3rd place vote from one of the Chicago writers.

If webb wins it will be a travestamockery.
