MLB.com: Kuroda brilliant in one-hitting Braves

Hiroki Kuroda was nearly perfect Monday in the Dodgers’ 3-0 victory over the Braves in front of 39,896 to open the series.

Instead, he was just very good and settled for a one-hit shutout after his bid for a perfect game was spoiled in the top of the eighth inning as Mark Teixeira laced a double into the right-field corner.

Kuroda (5-6) sailed through seven innings with six strikeouts while allowing only three fly balls to reach the outfield

The Dodgers (44-45) move into a tie for first place with the D-backs (44-45).

Dodgers have good pitching and Kuroda has nasty stuff.

The least worst team will prevail in the NL West!

How badly do the Braves have to play in the next couple of weeks to be sellers? They are only six games back but they are at least 3.5 games behind three teams, the Phils, the Fish, and the Mets. If they fall a few more games back, they might be too far back. It's much harder to chase multiple teams than it is one team.

I don't think the Dodgers are great, or even a very good team.

But I do think they are a decent team. Keep in mind that they had 10 players on the dl not very long ago. Not all of them missed, but that's still a lot of depth to make up. It wouldn't surprise me if they played at a 90 win pace the rest of the way - which would still leave them with a record not very much over .500, of course.

And Kuroda is looking like a serious bargain - the best free agent signing of Uncle Ned's career.

Wow

Brabes play 17 innings, then fly out to LA, and this

Anyone who doesn't sell Kuroda in the next 24 hours - ok, post an update here and tell me how dumb I am down the road.

And if I win.... well, you're a classy bunch.....

Kuroda has a 3.39 ERA and a k/bb ratio of 2/1 (and gives up hrs at about one per 11 innings). Obviously, if somebody in a fantasy league overvalues him, trade him. But he's a good pitcher. Not a great pitcher - don't get overly excited by tonight - but he's pitched very well for the Dodgers this season.

The Dodgers are probably an 83-85 win team. At the moment, that would easily take the division.

That's a pretty tough definition of "just very good."

This team hates me.

Well, you know, giving up a two strike hit to the likely best hitter in free agency this coming offseason IS pretty pathetic, after all.

Yay: Kuroda is on my fantasy team
Boo: I didn't pay enough attention to just leave him in as a starter
Yay: Ryan Howard is on my fantasy team
Boo: He doesn't seem to do anything other than hit homers, walk, and strikeout
Yay: My league has AB R HR RBI SB OPS as stats, meaning that Howard isn't quite that awful
Boo: My team is not good with stealing bases or OPS (.799) but they have lots of homers and RBI
Boo: My pitching isn't good, and i'm in 6th place of 12 teams (at 107-93-10)

I'm the worlds most retarded fantasy player - easily
