MLB.com: Liriano lifts Twins into first place

After being unable to bring runners home for most of Friday night and early Saturday, Minnesota posted a big sixth inning and won easily, 7-3, against the Royals at Kauffman Stadium. With the victory, the Twins passed the White Sox—who lost to the Red Sox earlier Saturday—to take sole possession of first place in the American League Central.
...
[Delmon] Young was involved in a highlight play other than his home run. Early in the sixth, Royals starter Zack Greinke hit him with a pitch, and Young walked threateningly toward the mound before pulling back.

Francisco Liriano started for the Twins in his second start since returning from Triple-A, and gave up three runs in 5 2/3 innings.

If the Twins manage to win their division, they will have won their 5th division title since 2002. They don't get nearly the love they deserve from BTFers, IMHO. All they do is win.

In case you're wondering, Miguel Olivo was the first Royal to run on the field after Delmon Young had to be prevented from throwing his bat at Zack Greinke.

So all it takes to "lift" a team into first place is 4.76 runs per 9 innings?

He replaced Livan Hernandez in the rotation. A one game ERA of 4.76 is a lift.

I see your point. But I think the 7 runs they scored did most of the lifting.

Um, all props to Olivo, but there was no bat throwing. Go watch the actual video on the linked article. He gets smoked high on the shoulder, imediately flips his bat towards the Twins' dugout and turns to the mound while pulling off his elbow guard. I'm ambivalent about Greinke's culpability, because there was clearly some loss of control: the timing was very suspect but the pitch was much higher than the usual knockdown. Anyway, no bat throwing, just some purposeful striding.

The Twins are so much fun to watch. They really don't get nearly as much credit as they deserve for being a very well run organization.

Watching the game last night, it sounded like there were more Twins fans than Royals fans in attendance.

I don't know if I agree with this. I think that most Pirate fan BTFers point to the Twins as much as possible when it comes to pointing out that 0 .500 seasons in 16 years is completely unacceptable.

At least they don't get slammed like the A's for not winning the WS, though that may start soon. enough.

I'd like watching the Twins much, much more if they played at home on natural grass. The new stadium will make me more of a Twins fan.
