Phillies assistant general manager Mike Arbuckle shot down a published report that suggested Brett Myers has requested a trade.
Former Phillies closer Ricky Bottalico, now a television analyst for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, was quoted in the story, saying, “I know for a fact that he wants to be traded. Brett wants to be a closer, and he’s not closing in Philadelphia. He’s banking on getting outta there. You know it as well as I do that he doesn’t want to be with the Phillies anymore. He’s made that perfectly clear.” The story, which appeared in the Bucks County Courier Times, had a contained a denial from Myers and Phillies management.
Add Arbuckle to that list.
“He doesn’t want to be traded,” Arbuckle said. “I don’t know where all of that came from. He’s always made it clear that he likes it here. It’s home now. This is the only organization he’s known. That was much ado about nothing. He’s given us no indication that he wants to be traded.”

1. Crashburn Alley Posted: July 09, 2008 at 05:37 AM (#2850230)If he did want to be traded, I could understand it, but based off of the information I've been privy to, I don't think this is the case. Bottalico is talking out of his ass, it seems.
Not surprising. After all, he's apparently on the other side of the "s/he had it coming" dynamic in his own household.
One, if he knows what's good for him!
They've, um...got it coming.
That's not true, they fell down the stairs.
Coffee spew successfully triggered. Nicely done.
Now there's a resume to be proud of...
It'd be one thing if Kim Myers was A) hurt or B) didn't forgive him, but she forgave her husband for the incident. If she can forgive him, I think you guys can, too. They've been working together to strengthen their relationship in counseling, I think that's admirable.
MOST beaten women "forgive" the man who beat them. women who the man puts in intensive care refuse to press charges. what of it? you really think that makes things just peachy?
it doesn't change the fact that brett myers is the kind of man who feels perfectly comfortable putting his fist in the face of a defenseless human being who is half his size. and now he is in treatment to learn how to resist hitting a woman when he feels like it. isn't that special.
i don't believe that most men will hit a woman. i DO believe that most men believe that men who hit women are beneath contempt. i'm sorry you apparently feel different. it doesn't exactly say good things about you
As BC wrote - the "forgiving" is typical in those relationships. I don't buy it. I have a good friend who constantly covered up and forgave her husband for his "incidents" - none nearly as serious as Brett's. It's rare that such things are one time incidents. Such egregious things as what Brett did are likely virtually never a one time occurance.
I can understand (not condone) taking a swing. It would require counseling, but anger management can be an issue. That violent though, or repeated (as I strongly suspect is the case for Myers also, given all I know about domestic violence) is something different. If it gets to that level, then if the attacker hasn't sought treatment on his own prior to that, it means he is basically scum.
There are very few players I actively hate - Myers has made that short list.
