MLB.com: Shaky sixth spoils night for Sheets

The Brew Crew has suddenly gone flat.

Ben Sheets was knocked around for six runs and 11 hits in his worst start in more than two months, and the Brewers’ offense was stifled in a 7-1 loss to the Cubs on Tuesday in Game 2 of a four-game showdown between the National League Central leaders.
...
After a 7-0 road trip to begin the second half, the Brewers have lost four of five on their homestand.

The Cubs scored five runs on seven hits against Sheets (10-4) in the sixth inning to provide some breathing room for starter Carlos Zambrano (12-4), who pitched eight dominant innings while holding Milwaukee scoreless on five hits.

Not the best time to start off the homestand 1-4.

I loved that series. It was the series that made me believe the Cubs were going to win the division.

Anyway, bad Brewer fundamentals made last night's win possible. The Brewers just looked over-matched tonight. Going into the series, the unofficial goal of the Cubs was probably a split, while the Brew Crew was aiming for a series win. The former has been realized while the latter won't be happening. But I think if you're the Cubs, you need to give a quick pat on the back for these two impressive wins and not let up. It would be very Cub-like to win the two games against the aces and then piss away the ones against the rotation's lesser pitchers.

These two Cub wins paired with two Cardinals wins have suddenly made St. Louis a team to consider even though they looked dead after that sweep last week.

At this point, I'm not convinced the NL WC is definitely coming out of the Central. The revitalization of the Mets has sparked a race in the East and that WC picture is suddenly looking a little more crowded. Great stuff all around heading into the final two months.

Didn't get to see the game but apparently Braun got eaten up alive out there in left field.

The Brewers really shouldn't let CC roam in the outfield on his off days

I missed most of Braun's left field adventures, but that blooper that sent DeRosa to second was bizarre. It hung up in the air long enough to be caught and Braun faked like he was going to. DeRosa didn't buy it, though, and stayed at second. It has high up enough, though, that I thought there had to be two outs at the time because DeRosa would otherwise be doubled off. But then Braun just let the ball drop in.

I'm still not sure why Sheets was allowed to give up hit after hit without having someone, whether it be Kendall, Maddux or Yost head out there to give him a breather.
