MLBPA boss Weiner has brain tumor

Baseball players’ union head Michael Weiner is undergoing treatment for a brain tumor.

The union said Tuesday that he began treatment a day earlier. The union said treatments are expected last about one month and it anticipates he will continue to work from its New York office on a daily basis.

Michael Weiner does not deserve to go into the HOF.

This is the worst news since Boston Beaneaters slugger Dave Brain's weiner tumor.

But seriously, this story is written as if "brain tumor" was "broken ankle". What kind of brain tumor is this? He's only 50. This sounds like a tragedy ... ?

Yeah, that's the question. Here's hoping it is not a glioblastoma and is fully treatable.

Why? Surely they have other capable people? The first thing I would have said in this situation would be \"#### work". On second thought I would probably have said \"#### cancer" first.

If you're going to treat a brain tumor, your best bet is to treat the head.

Seriously, though, he needs to get well. Does he have any connection with those late 1970s-early 1980s Kansas City teams? I'm still mapping out that cancer cluster - Dick Howser, Ken Brett, Dan Quisenberry all died of brain cancer.

Jeez, some cold-hearted bastards in this group (and for the record, I went to a local comedy club on Saturday night where both the opening act and the headliner(s) did Penn State child molesting jokes -- and got huge laughs).

Get well soon, Michael.

Hopefully he can bet this. I hoping that his plan to continue to work while undergoing treatment is a positive sign.

UCCF - don't start talking 1980 MLB playoffs brain cancer clusters or risk the wrath of jmac.

I feel for Michael and also for the game - he and Rob Manfred have a good relationship that lacks the acrimony held by the old guard. If he is gone from the MLBPA for any reason, I fear discontinuity on the players side or an avaricious owner trying to exploit the perceived weakness.

As for cancer - it truly sucks and I am still feeling some effects of the treatment. However, I could still get one lefty out per night!

It says something about the state of labor peace in MLB these days that I've never heard of Michael Weiner.

Or maybe it's just my own ignorance, but I'm pretty sure Don Fehr was more known to the general public.
