TSN: Money can buy hope for all baseball fans

In November of 2000, Bud Selig told Congress, “an increasing number of our clubs have become unable to successfully compete for their respective Division Championships, thereby making postseason appearances—let alone postseason success—an impossibility. ... At the start of spring training, there no longer exists hope and faith for the fans of more than half of our 30 clubs.”

But that hope is back, and it starts with increased revenue. The economics of the sport have changed. Every team can win, and the Rockies proved it by reaching the World Series

There are fans of a few teams that would probably dispute that headline….but still pretty good stuff from Pinto.

One year later, a last-place team run by his daughter was the most profitable franchise in all of baseball. Ah Bud, you old lemon-flipper, you hornswaggled 'em all.

Money can buy hope for all baseball fans...except in Toronto, Tampa Bay and Baltimore.

Pittsburg, KC, Cincy ...

In what sense can money not buy hope for the Pirates, Royals, and Cincinnati? If any one of those teams had signed ARod as a free agent, they'd immediately be contenders for the division crown. KC actually has a chance to be a contender in a couple of years.

Or were you talking about incompetent management? That's a different story.

plink, it was the latter, adding on to TerpNats statement.

EDIT: Ah, I see he was whining :) about the Yankees/Red Sox. Never mind.

To paraphrase a title of an old Russ Columbo song, "you call it whining, but I call it truth."
