Morning News: Blackistone: Cuban dismissal crisis bad for baseball

What was a surprise as the U.S. men’s national soccer team opened CONCACAF Gold Cup play last summer was that it had to come from behind to win, 4-1.

What did not astonish was the team the U.S. beat. It only sounds shocking because the match took place in Seattle.

The defeated team was Cuba.

It wasn’t the first time Cuba’s men’s soccer team kicked around on a U.S. pitch, either. In 2003, it played the U.S. men in Foxboro, Mass., during that year’s Gold Cup quarterfinals, getting lit up by Landon Donovan with four goals.

Whatever one thinks of the World Baseball Classic, if this causes it to not get played, that’ll be a shame, and a gigantic waste of everyone’s time.
