Nats ask fans to ‘Take Back the Park’ vs. Phils

You can’t spell effen Phillies without Feffer!

When it comes to the Phillies, chief operating officer Andy Feffer wants Nationals fans to fill up Nationals Park—and for a good reason.

In the last few seasons, whenever the Nationals played their National League East rival in D.C., almost nothing but Phillies fans flocked to the stadium.

...“For several years now, our fans, everybody, have been screaming about the number of Phillies fans that invade our park when we have a series here at Nationals Park,” Feffer said. “Frankly, I’m tired of seeing the Phillies fans in our ballpark in Washington more than anything. We sat down as a group and we said, ‘You know what? It’s time to take our park back in Washington and get our fans in this park.’

“We have a great team this year—one of the best pitching staffs in the National League, if not the best with the addition of Edwin Jackson and Gonzalez. You have [Stephen] Strasburg and Zimmerman healthy. We sat down and said, ‘Let’s do something we’ve never done before. Let’s go out prior to single-game tickets going on sale in March and open it up early starting Friday.

...“Someone asked me, ‘What do you think of Philly and Phillies fans and the series?’” said Feffer. “I couldn’t be more direct. I said, ‘Forget you, Philly. It’s our fans, our time, our park and we are going to fill it with Nationals fans.’ We are going to do everything we can to ensure our fans here in Washington that first opportunity to make that happen.”

I'm sorry. Wasn't it Kasten who marketed to Philly in the first place?

‘Forget you, Philly.

Did they conduct this interview on TBS?

Louie, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful rivalry.

Does this mean that Feffer won't sell tickets to anyone whose zip code starts with 0 or 1?

This is boob-bait. The Nats ticket office was calling Philly fans a month ago.

In order to help them accomplish this goal, they should offer free tickets to current and former season ticket holders.

Is this is a Washington D.C. problem? I know the Capitals at one point were refusing to sell hockey tickets to people with ZIP codes originating from Western PA because Penguins fans were outnumbering Caps fans at games.

What goes around comes around...a quarter-century ago, Mets fans outnumbered Phillies fans at the Vet.

Hell, try 10 years ago.

As for the Nationals their ticket office calls me something like 3 times a week to try and get me to buy tickets. I see no reason to do that since I can simply buy a 5 or 10 dollar ticket the day of the game instead of forking over 50 or more dollars in advance.

I also don't like how teams wait for what seems like forever to start selling single game tickets all in the hopes that they sell a few more season tickets. At least the Pirates have their tickets on sale already. Thoug it looks like they jacked up their prices. It looks like a ticket that cost me 28 bucks last year would now cost me 33 bucks.

And now Kasten hopes to be in a position where he gets to urge Giants fans to #OccupyChavezRavine.

Sure, this stop-gap initiative seems silly, but at least the Nationals seem to realize that winning is the longer-term solution to this annoyance.

More like "Take Back Jayson Werth".

Especially since it worked so well for one of them, he replied with tragic irony.

What the excerpt doesn't reveal is that Andy Feffer lives on Pfefferkorn Road in the thriving metropolis of Glenelg, Maryland. Coincidence? I think not.

Glenelg is one of the few towns intentionally named palindromicly. Pretty good area, btw.

The Nats also announced that Port Said police would be on hand to provide security during Phils games.

Used to date a girl from there. town was kinda half-rural, half-rich in the '80s. Probably all rich now.
