HOW WILL THE ANGELS LOSE TODAY?!

Is there anyone who's a reasonable comp for Tyler Glasnow's transition to the majors? Going back to late 2015, in Triple A he's 19-6, 1.95 with 155 hits, 116 walks, and 322 k's in 245 innings. Over a little more than a year, in the majors he's 2-9, 6.94, with 101 hits, 52 walks, and 78 k's in 82 innings. He just turned 24, he's now on his third try in the majors. I'd be curious to know if anyone has ever shown that sort of disparity in results?

Oh hey, the Dodgers have another 2 run lead in Philly. How are they going to blow it this time?
   4. Joyful Calculus Instructor Posted: September 21, 2017 at 02:15 PM (#5536040)
[2] First names that come to mind are Nolan Ryan and Randy Johnson. People forget young Johnson gave up a #### ton of walks.
   5. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 21, 2017 at 02:15 PM (#5536041)
So while Joyful over there is hand-wringing about a pointless game, a series with actual playoff implications starts tonight in Milwaukee. Should be a fun, if not stressful weekend.
   6. Bote Man Posted: September 21, 2017 at 02:18 PM (#5536045)
How are they going to blow it this time?

Just guessing here, but hows abouts a 2-run homer by Nick Williams?

BTW, this game is not pointless: the Dodgers and Nationals are hoping to best the other for home field advantage or matching up with the winner of the 1-game Wild Card playoff or some such prize.
   7. Joyful Calculus Instructor Posted: September 21, 2017 at 02:23 PM (#5536048)
Yeah, Dodgers blew the lead early this time. The lineup has also been disappointing today. Both runs required bad fielding on the Phillies' part. Somehow, the second one was ruled to have scored on a hit rather than an error.

Phillies broadcast just stated that Nick Williams and Rhys Hoskins have combined to drive in 40 runs this month, assuming I got that right.

Boy, that ball is LOUD off Hoskins' bat. 2-RBI double. 4-2 Phillies.

With that 2-RBI double by Hoskins, yes, that's 40 RBI between Williams and Hoskins this month, 20 for each. If Altherr is real, that's a nice core of three young bats to build around.
   11. BDC Posted: September 21, 2017 at 03:15 PM (#5536099)
Kinda like the Senate healthcare bill, the Rangers zombie-like refuse to die. After beating Seattle twice, they are 2½ games behind the Twins and a game behind the Angels (Texas and LA have eleven to play, Minnesota ten; none of the three have games left against one another). Amazing or appalling enough, the Rangers have a mild chance at the playoffs despite being a game below .500 on Sept. 21st.

Puig strikes out against the lefty Milner. This season, Puig is hitting .179/.321/.250 against lefties. He's never been terrible against lefties before, but that's almost pitcher-level incompetence.

Dodgers win! The magic number falls to 1. I honestly think they'll crack 100 wins this year.

From ESPN:
Dodgers can clinch the NL West on Friday with a win at home against the Giants or a Diamondbacks loss to Miami. Other magic numbers:

Yankees: 3 (to clinch wild card)
Diamondbacks: 4 (to clinch wild card)
Red Sox: 8 (to clinch AL East)
Cubs: 8 (to clinch NL Central)

Cubs show a replay of a thrown to the plate from the Brewers' rookie CF that was measured at 104.1 MPH. "You may say, 'why doesn't he pitch?'" says Kasper. "Well, it's because you can't start at second base and crow-hop your way to the mound."

How quickly Carter Capps is forgotten.

You're kidding right? It's the Yankees who just refuse to lose another game. It's insane and just getting a little annoying as I would really like the Red Sox to be able to start setting the rotation before the series with the Astros.

40 pitches thru 3 for Jake. Sharp and efficient tonight.

Yeah, they really gave the Yankees a run for the money over the weekend.

Contreras just took one hard off the knee. He’s toughing it out but he’s in a lot of pain.

Bob Uecker giving a VERY detailed explanation of catcher's shin guards and how that could possibly happen.

There's a legitimate reason to root for the Brewers to play in the post-season: more Bob Uecker.

Bottom 6 inches of the zone are balls today, but consistently so at least.

Rizzo is so smooth defensively
   48. Andere Richtingen Posted: September 21, 2017 at 09:41 PM (#5536299)
It wasn't entirely pretty but that was a great double play. Rizzo's grab and throw were perfect. Russell's throw to first was rushed and way off, but Arrieta pulled off an amazing salvage job.

This could be said on any day that Lackey isn't pitching.

   65. Spahn Insane, stimulus-funded BurlyMan™ Posted: September 21, 2017 at 09:58 PM (#5536321)
Yeah, Nauert's been terrible. He's been fairly consistent, but still terrible--he's missed a couple down the middle strikes on both sides, and I'm not sure consistency's a virtue when you're calling everything four inches off one edge of the plate a strike.

Javy didn't look too good rounding first there.
   66. The Yankee Clapper Posted: September 21, 2017 at 09:59 PM (#5536322)
Mass confusion in Atlanta.

Dusty is pretty serious about this CLINCHED business. Once Tanner Roark came out after the 7th, it was like a spring training game with at lest 6 substitutions. Not sure if Dusty didn't explain it well, the umpires didn't get it right, or some of both. Several players took the field and then went back to the dugout. Ten minute delay, or more, between innings. Unusual. Box Score here, but I'm not vouching for it.

As someone (Moses?) posted in the Gonfalon thread, as much as we hate to have to admit it, Lackey's actually been pretty damn effective of late. Certainly more so than Lester.
